Give Me 5 Monday @ The Movies

Another cute meme my bestie @ Red Knows How stumbled across. It’s Called Give Me 5 Monday and it’s hosted @ Becca’s Buzz. This week’s theme is: movies!

Give Me Five recent movies you’ve rented.

According to ye old Netflix queue, that would be…

  1. Cinderelmo: I’d give this movie 4 stars. MM liked it a lot and despite being the world’s cheesiest movie ever, it wasn’t terribly annoying. And Keri Russell was in it! Love her!
  2. Batman Forever: FIVE STARS easily. We’re smack dab in the middle of an ongoing Batman marathon. So far this has been our favorite Batman Movie, with the newest one, The Dark Knight being the exception, but let’s face it, that was The Joker: The Movie and not really a Batman movie…
  3. Iron Man (we got this from Red Box but I remember we got it recently): I’d also give this 5 stars. I really didn’t think I’d like it at all, but it was so good, honestly one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time and I like a lot of movies, so that’s saying something.
  4. Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: 4 Stars. This movie was not even a little bit what I expected and for about 10 minutes I was seriously ticked off, but man they made it work. I really loved it in the end.
  5. You Don’t Mess With the Zohan: 3.5 stars. In some ways I’d tell you this movie was awful. It was also wonderful and brilliant. It’s mindless comedy at it’s best but it’s also Adam Sandler and HE’S the best! I love the whole point of the movie, the whole idea that nations should be able to get along and coexist, especially in America where that’s supposedly the whole point.

What movies have you rented recently?

Monday Morning With The Sick Kid

It’s time for another Monday Morning Meme, which is brought to you by Karen @ Write From Karen. This week’s questions are:

1. What’s your mood today? Why do you feel this way? Would you consider yourself to be a moody person overall? When has your “moodiness” gotten you into trouble? Tell us about that incident. Today I’m mostly just siiiiick. In fact, pretty much the whole family is. We woke up yesterday with this lingering suck just sucky enough to make us whine about it, but controlled enough that we kept on trucking, getting our errands done. Do you know how hard it is to pick out fabric for a quilt when you’d rather be hiding under the already made covers? Oh well. This morning I’m doing laundry and being sick. I don’t really have time for an actual mood, I’m just trying to keep it together, you know? I am definitely prone to moody – I have ups and downs and they are usually well defined. I don’t know of any story of my moodiness getting me into trouble but maybe I’m just too sick to think about it?

2. How do you feel about the dentist? On a scale of 1 (terrified) to 10 (he’s like a brother to you). And, if it’s a low number … is there a reason behind your fear / loathing? Tell us a dentist story (we all have them!) The dentist is pretty much a 3 in my book – to be avoided at all cost. I’m not afraid of him, just untrusting and wary. I know I’ll have to get over that pretty soon. But when you combine a lack of dental insurance with a sketchy at best dental history, I think it’s understandable. I’ve had a lot of cavities, a few too many root canals, and I’ve even had to have a tooth pulled because of a lack of communication between the dentist and my father (when I was too young to be the person told) about needing a permanent filling added at a later date. Oh and the root canal where the doctor drilled too deep. That was fun. I probably have all my details mixed up but seriously, I just don’t like them. My last dentist was completely unaware of how to properly use Novocaine and to add to that, he was also the opposite of gentle and kind of a jerk – even the dental hygienists didn’t like him and complained about him behind his back. There is a supposedly really good children’s dentist in the next town (Dr. Tony – read about him here) over and I’m planning to take my son there when the time comes (and I think it’s coming soon) because I’ve heard rave reviews.

3. If you could interview anyone, who would you interview, and what would the first question be? I’d interview John Mayer and my first question would be, “Don’t you read my blog?” My next question would be, “Why haven’t you called Natalie Portman yet?” or “Are you really dating Jennifer Aniston again, because I’m skeptical of the media at this point.”

4. What did you do over the weekend? Let’s see, we had “game night” if you can call it that, and ate lots of yummy pizza, artichoke dip, pumpkin bread & cookies. I bought some fabric and a cutting board, etc. so I can learn to quilt – that should be fun. I hope. I’m not the world’s craftiest person but I’m gonna try! We also bought my son Big Kid Underpants because I’m planning to start POTTY TRAINING this week. More on that later.

Looking Fine 2009: Week 9

IMPORTANT NOTE TO LOYAL DAILY MISH MASH FANS:

Our fearless leader, Jen is switching to a new server and is currently the opposite of up and running and she’s unsure when things will be running, but guesses it won’t be today. She’s asked me to make note of that for any LF2009 participants looking to link up; you can leave a comment HERE with a link to your post (I’d put up a Mr. Linky but I’m not as cool as Jen and I’m not quite sure how yet) and Jen can either read them here, otherwise I’ll email her later tonight with anyone who weighed in today. Kay?

So yeah, on to more bad news. I gained almost five pounds (4.8). To be fair, I totally deserved that and maybe last week was the world’s biggest fluke. I kind of ignored my diet last week. I did exercise three days with the Pilates DVD that I reviewed here, but my water intake was sketchy at best (phrase of the week!) and the snackage? Let’s just say I indulged. Frequently. And did I mention the Game Night in which nobody came and it’s now up to me to eat all those snacks because dh is on a diet and he’s much more dedicated than I am. It’s like in his genes or something. Soon it’ll be in his jeans when he actually loses weight and makes me look like an idiot. Then I’ll have to kick it into high gear before his work hires him a secretary, because we all know how that would end.

So let’s review: Did not try. Did not lose weight. Did discover pretty good Pilates workout, but thanks to Netflix and my decision to return the DVD, I’m not sure when I’ll get another DVD to try (with a 2 at a time plan, holding onto it seemed like a bad idea).

I’m thinking maybe I should buy a DVD but I’m waiting to find one that I really love and hoping we come into posession of a Wii before that (which is about as likely as us coming into posession of a house any time soon).

My goals for this week:

  • Stop being sick (did I mention I’m sick? Leave chicken soup in the comments section below)
  • Drink MORE water.
  • Snack… less…. ish
  • Sabotage dh’s diet so mine will look better. “Look sweetie, I tripped, fell and made you your favorite chocolate chip cookies?” ::innocent smile::
  • Do something active at least once this week.

That’s all for now folks. Don’t forget to leave a link to your post in my comments section so I can forward them to Jen, our fearless leaderette @ Daily Mish Mash.
