Reading Challenge: In Their Shoes
Scrap Girl @ Serendipty mentioned a reading challenge she’s doing called In Their Shoes which is basicalluy an annual event where you challenge yourself to read a certain number of biographies, autobiographies and/or memoirs. Right now I’m reading Home: A Memoir Of My Early Years by Julie Andrews which I’m really enjoying. Just the other day I mentioned I wanted to read more non-fiction and that memoirs were probably my best bet, so this challenge seems right up my alley. I only have one or two other specific books in mind, but I think I will try to read (5) five by the end of the year.
I read 47 books last year and I’m hoping to read at least 50 this year, so reading just 5 memoirs shouldn’t be impossible. The hardest part is going to be that last year I read the entire Series of Unfortunate Events – that was a quick easy 13 books – the only series I’m planning to start this year is The Chronicles of Narnia and since I already read The Magician’s Nephew last month that means only a guaranteed 6 books this year – half of last year. So I’ll really need to keep committed to make this happen, but I think I can do it!
I’m only planning to do one other challenge this year – the Romance Reading Challenge @ The Bookworm. That’s for another five books (I wrote another post with those book selections here) – so 10 of my books this year will be challenge related, but hopefully also will be books that I genuinely want to read – at least I have a whole year to read them!
