Monday Morning: June 1

June 1st Questions:

1. What’s the most important thing you’ve learned recently? When you are making, say pasta, and the water starts boiling uncontrollably and you turn the heat down but the foam is still too much for the pot – throw in some salt and vegetable oil – or maybe do it anyway before the boiling over happens. According to my husband it helps to make the water boil faster, which for some reason keeps the water boiling in the pot. I don’t understand it, but it works.

2. What’s your hidden talent? Are you double-jointed? Can you sneeze the alphabet? Share your unique skill. To be honest, I don’t think I have one. I’ve never spent much time trying to accomplish anything of the “hidden talent” variety, maybe because it seemed to hold no purpose? Not to knock anyone who has a hidden talent, I think they are neat, but I’ve never been able to devote that much time to those kinds of things. Which is not to say that I don’t waste time, just that when I do – I try to have as little purpose in what I’m doing as possible. And let’s be honest – when I find myself talented in any area, I’m not likely to hide it or keep it a secret – more likely I’ll be shouting it from the roof tops!

3. Hello June! What are your final words for May? May was crazy! How much happened in May? When May started I was living in Massachusetts and I’m pretty sure we were still waiting to hear back from Dream Company – then planning a move to a whole new state in record speed, saying goodbye to our lives as we knew it, and picking up and moving to Wisconsin. I saw Niagara Falls for the first time. I finally entered that horribly uncomfortable 3rd Trimester Stage. I went to Dairy Queen and liked it for like the first time ever. And now it’s June and I just know that it’s going to be equally crazy as we try to adjust to our new lives here.

4. If you’re staying home this summer, why? If you’re traveling, where to? How often do you take summer vacations? How important is taking a summer vacation to you? Tell us about the best summer vacation you EVER had. [Answer the poll at Karen's Monday Morning Meme post] I’m pretty sure after all of our May shenanigans, we’ll be staying home as much as possible. To mention that whole new baby coming next month. The good news is that just going to the store is kind of like a vacation for us right now – everything is still new and glowy – and we have a handful of family members planning to visit and see the new baby. Hopefully by skipping a “summer vacation” we’ll be able to recoup our savings a little bit and get back to normal. In general though, I think summer vacations, or traveling in general, is awesome and important. I like to get away from things and spend quality time with the family and I love exploring new places. I actually really like traveling in the spring and fall though, when the weather is a bit more mild. The best summer vacation I’ve had was probably our trip to Hershey, PA a couple years ago – it was our first road trip as a family and very memorable.

Your turn.

I never knew that about the boiled water thing..possibly why it’s recommended to be added in the first place.
I’m glad your enjoying your little city and liking DQ- you know DQ is the rest stop capital of Texas or something like that. I’m not a big big fan and mainly do Sonic or Braums for my dessert cravings. Wonders if WI has a Sonic?
