Aloha Friday: Favorite Childhood TV Shows

This morning my son told me that he didn’t want to watch Elmo. Seriously.

When I’d turned the tv on, Playhouse Disney was on, leftover from some show he’d been watching last night. I glanced at the clock and noticed Elmo’s World was just starting on Sesame Street so I clicked over to PBS immediately, knowing it was his favorite.

“No! I don’t want to watch that!!!” he yelled.

“Are you sure? It’s Elmo’s World,” I asked, surprised.

“No, I don’t want to watch Elmo, I want to watch the other show…”

I’ve never seen my son turn down Elmo, but I clicked back over to Playhouse Disney. Some show I’d never seen before was on. Grown men wearing weird clothes and dancing, but it wasn’t The Wiggles… Weird. I realized after a few minutes that it was that show, Imagination Movers. MM was hooked.

Apparently the guys were trying to get their giant pumpkin out of the house to take to the Fall Festival’s Biggest Pumpkin Contest, but it was TOO BIG and wouldn’t fit. So they brainstormed lots of ideas to get it out in one piece, and eventually decided to just bake a giant pumpkin pie and enter that in the Best Pumpkin Pie contest, which of course they won. Predictable but actually pretty cute. I’d way rather he want to watch this than Spongebob or Ed, Edd and Eddie, that’s for sure.

He is getting to that point where he can figure out song lyrics and jump in and sing along, which is really cute. When they all pulled on chef hats and started singing about cooking MM said, “Are they being chefs? Are they baking a pumpkin pie? I WANT TO MAKE PUMPKIN PIE!” lets just say my heart melted immediately. So while I might personally still prefer PBS for its shows all about ABCs and Science and stuff, these shows on Playhouse Disney aren’t half bad. And I’d rather he watch something he loves than just tv for tv’s sake.

Soooo my Aloha Friday questions today are:

  1. If you are a parent, what is or was your child(ren)’s favorite tv show?
  2. Not a parent? Can you remember one of your favorite shows as a kid?
  3. On a Halloween-y note, what’s your favorite Halloween-themed family friendly movie?
