she’s a memeiac, memeiac…

Supposedly I am addicted to memes but lately there seems to be little proof of that. I thought I should rectify the situation. Got this one from Jen @ Stuff Jen Says. She’s kind of like my meme dealer.

  1. Do you get manicures/pedicures? I have only gotten one manicure in my life – never a pedicure. I’m not really into strangers touching my feet, but I suppose since I’ve never done it, I can’t honestly say for sure.
  2. When did you last get your hair cut? I can’t really remember but I’m pretty sure Dan was the last person to cut my hair. We’re really into at home hair cuts these days cause it’s all sorts of free and I honestly have very little pride.
  3. Do you get regular massages? No but I get regualr “junk mail” voice messages, that’s sort of similar since there’s only one letter different in the words “massages” and “messages” yet strangely one leaves you feeling relaxed and the other leaves you thinking “WTF, aren’t I on the Do Not Call List?”
  4. Have you ever waxed a part of your body? Is this whole quiz going to be about spa treatments that I can’t afford?
  5. Can you see your veins? Some of them…
  6. Do you use tanning beds? Not since I was like fourteen – aren’t those like death machines?
  7. Favorite soap? Ones that don’t leave my skin feeling all dry and ylicky – like hotel soaps? Hate those. I mostly use liquid hand soaps and body wash.
  8. Favorite shampoo? I’ve been using Pantene Pro-V lately and I’m pretty happy with it. I ran out of the shampoo bottle and was supplementing with another brand. Horrible.
  9. Favorite kind of music? John Mayer – what were you hoping for a genre? Don’t you know he is like the only music I can stand most days? Do you even read my blog?
  10. Favorite time of day? When daddy (Dan) comes home
  11. Favorite local tourist attraction? I suppose I’d have to go with the free zoo
  12. Favorite swear word? This is a family friendly blog, folks, move along…
  13. Favorite fruit? either raspberries, kiwis or clementines. I don’t like making decisions.
  14. Favorite kind of meat? sea food
  15. Favorite fish? salmon
  16. Favorite flavor milkshake? Chocolate
  17. Favorite kinds of candy? Dark Chocolate Reeses Cups
  18. Have you ever eaten a whole bag of potato chips? Not since we started calorie counting but I’ve come close before.
  19. Have you ever eaten lobster? yes
  20. What’s a food you’re embarrassed to admit you love to eat? there are embarrassing foods?
  21. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten? I suppose deer meat?
  22. Have you ever climbed a mountain? lmfao are you kidding me? I won’t even chase an ice cream truck. Yet. Just wait til I take up jogging this spring. It’s gonna be the new big.
  23. Have you ever been skydiving or bungee jumping? No I much prefer staying on the ground.
  24. Have you ever been water-skiing? I’m pretty sure that’d also be a terrible idea. This quiz is making me feel LAME.
  25. Do you like your nose? It’s the only one I’ve got.
  26. Would you change the color of your eyes if you could? No I’m good.
  27. Do you like salt and vinegar potato chips? Splech! No but Dan does.
  28. Do you eat salsa? sometimes but I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy foods.
  29. What do you buy at the movie theater concession stand? soda and nachos or chocolate… although now that I’m dieting and smart and stuff I might need to mend my ways… Their serving sizes are a weight gain waiting to happen.
  30. Do you own a boat? No but my dad is planning to buy one!
  31. Do you have a pool? Nope
  32. Can you swim? mostly but not very well
  33. Which do you prefer, bagel or toast? Toast.
  34. Cats or dogs? sure – I like both although I’m pretty allergic to cats so these days I mostly just love them from afar.
  35. Pens or pencils? Well if I need to erase something, a pencil. Otherwise, definitely a pen. I hate pencil sharpeners.
  36. Coffee or tea? Yes please.
  37. Bath or shower? Showers. We have yet to have a bathtub that I feel like spending time in. Maybe if we had one of those whirlpool tubs…
  38. Markers or crayons? Crayons, preferably Crayola but that’s a given, right?
  39. You’re making a trip across the country. Do you drive or fly? If we could get enough time off I’d love to drive. And by that, of course, I mean I’d love for Dan to drive and me to say things like, “Pull over, it’s the CHEESE MUSEUM!”

  49. Last time you were at a sports bar? I’m not sure – we definitely went to one the past year but I couldn’t tell you when.
  50. Last thing you celebrated? BB’s half birthday I suppose.

daybook: february 1st

out for a walk
Today…

If you looked outside my window: you’d see another brisk morning. The sky has just the slightest hint of blue but mostly it’s another gray day. We had to run to the office this morning to drop off our rent payment. We bundled up in jackets, hats, gloves, etc. On our way back inside we passed a girl wearing shorts and a tee shirt!! It’s like fifteen degrees outside!!

I am reading: Little Children by Tom Perrotta – so far I’m not sure if I like it or not. It’s just interesting enough to keep me interested, but it’s kind of a downer… the characters in the book are all so sad and seem trapped in these boxes they’ve made for themselves… very sad. But thankfully I can put the book down and step outside of that box and back into my own life which is much more cheerful!

Last night I: finally baked some of my supposedly infamous chocolate chip cookies. This recipe and I have been battling each other for awhile now. They used to come out all warm and gooey and perfect each time – and more importantly flat. They never come out flat anymore and I have no idea why.

practically ball-shaped cookies equal bizarre

I also: started making homemade baby food – like more than just mashing a banana with a fork. Okay, let’s be honest, Dan’s making it – but still – we are making some effort to make baby food more affordable. We picked up some of those little covered ice cube trays and a cheap food mill – so worth it. I’ll be reviewing them at the review blog and probably here also sometime this week.

Last night we made carrots and applesauce – twelve servings of each.

perfect one ounce servings

Today we’re: playing catch up on laundry and otherwise enjoying the wonderful act of laziness. We had a pretty busy weekend and I intend to do very little today outside of housework and blogging. Don’t hate me because I’m fabulous.

In the kitchen:

I really want to make: either of these delicious looking desserts: Peach Crunch Cake at Bakerella and Best Cocoa Brownies at Smitten Kitchen – also this Orange Julius inspired smoothie at Sweet Savory Life

This weekend we: watched Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and The Proposal – both movies were really cute, classic chick flick goodness. I recommend both of them. The rest of the weekend was largely spent in the kitchen making pizza, cookies, banana bread, potatoes au gratin and homemade baby food.

I should mention: that my grandfather died this weekend? I’m doing surprisingly okay, probably in denial. He lived in Germany most of my life and we’ve only spent a very small amount of time together – and from what I’ve heard he wasn’t doing very well before he went. I think I am blessed to be over here, away from all of it, so that I can continue to be in emotional denial. I am sad that he will never get to meet his great grand daughter but at least he got to meet MM and Dan before he died and I did get to spend some time with him while he was in the U.S. briefly. We might not have been particularly close but in so many ways this is the end of an era for me. I’m sure it will hit me later in a much more profound way – or gradually in small ways over the years. I don’t know, I think I just wish I had something bigger to say about it.
