How we celebrated 5 years.

An Anniversary Dinner for Two on 365 Project

Before I forget, I totally need to tell you about our date night the other night. Friday we celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary by actually procuring a baby sitter (co oping services with a good friend) and Dan took me to The Melting Pot.

Have you ever been there? I cannot swoon highly enough – we had an amazing time! The waitress was probably the best waitress I’ve ever had, the food was ungodly good, especially dessert! And I loved the little Lover’s Lane aisle we sat in with corner seats so we could sit all comfy cozy together.

Plus, what can be better than getting to go out to eat WITHOUT the kids? We marveled over not having to put through their order before even looking at the appetizer menu – not having to rush through our meal before a temper tantrum might force us to have to leave early. No crayons. No sippy cups. No spilled cheerios on the floor underneath us. Romantic dinners are the shiz, guys.

So we’ve decided three things:

  1. We’re totally going to the Melting Pot for  our anniversary next year, too. It’s our new favorite tradition.
  2. We need to start going on Date Nights more often – I plan to talk to a couple of friends about arranging baby sitting co ops with them, too – because honestly paying for someone to sit in your living room and watch tv while your kids sleep is kind of silly if you have good friends you can swap services with. I love it. And I loved getting to spend quality time with my husband not sitting on our couch.
  3. There should be more fondue in our life. I want to get a good fondue pot for our house – Christmas present idea alert!

Basically, we had an awesome, delicious evening and a wonderful 5 year anniversary!

Daybook: August 8th

Today

Outside my window: the weather is just gorgeous. We’ve had some truly excellent walking weather the last couple of days, finally cooling down just enough to really enjoy being outdoors. So I’ve been trying to enjoy every second of it because I’m sure it will be over long before I’m done with it.

This weekend: Dan showed me how to put music on my cell phone. I know, a novel concept, right? I love when I’m practically the absolute LAST person to jump on a bandwagon (like the whole texting thing, which I’ve only been doing for like four months). But, seriously guys, this has changed my life. I loaded my phone up with all my favorite, upbeat songs and my once grueling, boring up hill both ways walks have turned into pleasant jaunts in which I cannot stop smiling and grooving to those awesome tunes I love so much. Pair that with the beautiful weather and exercise is suddenly seeming fun again – and could not be easier since all the music is coming from my phone which I was carrying anyway along with some ear buds.

We also: took some friends on a tour of Dan’s office before they move to California and leave us forever. We are super bummed to be losing these awesome friends to beautiful, sunny California but we couldn’t let them leave without giving them The Grand Tour which is always a good time.

Right now I’m reading: The Princess Bride by William Goldman and 80% done! I should be done in a day or two at which point I will start reading Cutting For Stone at lightning speed. Why do I always feel horribly rushed by the time I start the next book club book, but if I start too soon I finish like weeks before we meet?
