Apple Picking 2011

This morning BB and I went apple picking with our moms & tots group. There was a slight crisp of a chill in the air so we bundled up not being sure how the weather would treat us for a morning outdoors.

In all honesty BB may have been over dressed, but then again she never seemed overly warm either.

And how cute does she look in her fall finest?

We may have spent more time taking pictures than picking apples.

But it’s hard to focus on all that manual labor when there’s such a pretty little model walking around.

Of course I had to get the obligatory picture of BB with the giant apple sign to show how tall she is.

Here’s a trip down memory lane…

This is a picture of MM at the same sign just two years ago! Now that little cutie is in kindergarten and it was just me and BB left to the task of picking all our apples!

We did okay.

As long as I didn’t mind stopping every two feet or so to pick up rocks and pick at dead apples. And wipe dead apple germs off her hands with wet wipes. Thank god for wet wipes.

To be honest, we did more than okay. I’ve commented in the past that our previous apple picking excursions didn’t really live up to the hype. They were down right stressful. I may have blamed my husband.

I think it’s the only bad thing I can say about him – I don’t like apple picking with him. I was right. This year I went with just little BB and actually had a good time. They apples weren’t the best – slim pickings man! – but the experience was pretty rocking. We had a good time.

So, now we know. Apple picking is a mommy thing. A special treat that can only be shared with a very special mommy who doesn’t mind standing around while her little one digs in the dirt and plays with rocks and does her thing. It’s all good.

It just gives me more time to take pictures! ::evil laughter::

Oh and did I mention there were goats?

We had a great time, took some great pictures and hopefully picked some tasty apples. I’m planning to turn most of them into a pie or two – hopefully the sugar will distract from the fact that none of the apples look all that perfect apple-like. I always feel like we’ve come at the wrong time of the year but I think next year we’ll try a different farm just to see the difference.

Oh before I go – how about some pretty pictures that my little girl isn’t in, just to mix things up a bit?

This one makes me think of The Wizard of Oz…

And that’s it! Our apple picking trip of 2011 is complete!

Daybook: August 6th

Today

Outside my window: Things are starting to cool down drastically. We’ve gone from hot temps in the 90′s to barely scraping through the 60′s in a seemingly single bound. Mother nature has clearly decided that September equals fall, period – no need to wait till the end of the month. On the one hand, fall is a favorite season of mine so I don’t mind so much – but I’m hoping this doesn’t mean winter will start in October. :O)

This weekend: my husband has been trying to help me kick my diet into high gear. Mostly on account of I kept complaining that I was gaining weight and couldn’t seem to lose any. So there have been a lot of walks and he’s planning to drag me on a walk every morning after we get MM on the bus in the morning. I suppose it’s nice that he goes to school so early that Dan is still home to help out and spend time with us afterwards before leaving for work – and now we’ll all get in a bit of a work out first thing.

We also: had another big Get Stuff Done weekend. Dan replaced a light fixture on our front porch, finished framing out a big cork board in our kitchen (photos coming soon) and then made the beautiful forward facing bookshelf pictured above.

The design was based off this one that I showed him at Ohdeedoh but ours as you can see is quite different as he designed it specifically for this space, leaving room for the light switch as well as making a short shelf on the bottom for board books and then taller shelves above. I’m pretty happy with it. :O)

Oh and of course I have to show you: some cute pictures from last night when we took an impromptu trip to Dairy Queen for some ice cream to end our long Labor Day weekend.

It was almost too cold for ice cream… but not quite!

Right now I’m reading: Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese still and planning to pick up either Finding Aster or The Entitlement Trap to read during the day also. I need to review The Hour That Matters Most soon as I finished it over the weekend.

This week: is super busy! The entire month of September is actually pretty crazy, but this week little BB and I have something going on every morning! This morning we’re going apple picking with our Moms & Tots group (hopefully lots of cute pictures will be coming soon – and apple pie!) ; then tomorrow is our walking group, Thursday I’m going to try and take her to the local botanical gardens and Friday we have a play date with some friends!

One last picture to share before I go: a cute collage of MM’s schoolboy style! It’s still all about Phineas & Ferb around here and this outfit proves it! Oh and yes, there is a matching lunch box inside the backpack. :O)
