We’ve been really blessed when it comes to keeping this child clothed. I think 80% of her current wardrobe consists of hand me downs from good friends (75% is one friend in particular – love her). Most of her shoes we’ve come by via this method or yard sales this summer.
But I hadn’t yet found a frugal pair of rain boots for her (actually I did, they were just 2 sizes too big – maybe this spring?) so for now we’ve just been doing without. It’s hard enough coming to terms with the $30-40 snow boots that I’ll need to get her at some point, but spending $20 for rain boots that would just be really nice? Yeah, no. Hard to stomach.
I’d all but given up, forgotten and moved on when Monday afternoon a mom on our street that I’ve spoken to once or twice on the way to the bus stop if she happened to be coming or going at that time, but otherwise – we don’t really know each other from Adam – well she came out of her home and approached us holding a pair of well loved yellow rain boots and asked, “Do you by any chance need a pair of rain boots in a size 7?”
Um, YES. Guys, they are just the right size. And I think they might technically be boys’ boots, but I don’t care. I think they are perfect. Dirty? Whatever, I’ll clean them at some point. Or not. They’re just going to be jumping in mud puddles anyway.
This is not the first time this kind of good fortune has come our way and I’m betting it won’t be the last. I love when the things you need just seem to find their way to you – largely in thanks to the kindness of strangers.
So to the neighbor on our street who I really need to get to know better stat – THANK YOU. You made a great day even better.
