FIR ’11 Question: Where do you LOVE to read?

Fall into Reading @ Callapidder Days

Can you believe fall is already half over? With well over half the trees in town already bare, it’s starting to look more like winter on some streets than fall, but we still have several weeks of fall left to go! How is your reading coming along?

As part of the Fall into Reading challenge hosted by Kat @Callapidder Days, Kat will be asking a weekly reading question for us to answer at our blogs. Because what’s better than reading a great book? Talking about reading! It’s also a great way to get to know the other challenge participants in between reading. And you know me, I can’t pass up a chance to talk about myself!

This week her question is :

Where do you love to read? Do you have a favorite chair, a favorite room, a favorite place…somewhere that inspires you to put everything else aside and pick up a book?

So for me this question pretty much only has one answer – while our house has plenty of seating, there is really only one place I like to curl up with my book and that’s in bed. I don’t know if this has to do with comfort of said seating or noise level in my house.

When I’m in bed, the kids are asleep and the day is done and it’s just me and my book (and my husband, often waiting for me to finish reading and turn the light off already!) so it’s easy to lay down and immerse myself in the story I’m reading. However, long days often mean little reading time by the time I get to bed at night and this sometimes makes me cranky as my TBR pile gets bigger and bigger and bigger and…

So sometimes I wish that I had a cozy little reading nook downstairs where I could curl up with a book during the day. But that might require my children to magically disappear. But if, say, I were to give up some of my tv / cleaning / computer time while BB naps, it might be nice to have a spot to read, in a comfy chair, preferably not in the living room where the aforementioned tv sits there waiting to lure me in.

I also keep thinking, “Wouldn’t it be nice to read outside?” but this often fails to happen for two reasons : 1) Typically when I’m outside, the kids are outside and it’s hard to watch them and keep my nose in a book and 2) How often do I get weather that is not hot, cold, rainy, snowy, humid, windy, too dark or too bright AND I’m outside? Not often.

So? I really like to read in bed. And that’s good enough for now.

How about you? Where do you like to read?
