About American Idol and My Real Life

So last night we watched Idol’s disco night. All the performances were fine I guess but the only two which stood out for me were Kris Allen and of course Adam Lambert. I’m not-so-silently pegging them as my top 2 at this point. I love both the ladies, but I don’t think either of them stand a chance at this point. We’ve got Lil Rounds who just doesn’t seem to get it, and that’s fine, she still has a beautiful voice and I’m glad to have heard her – and then that tiny little bombshell, Allison whose voice just kills me, but she seems to have plateaued for me. And then I think, “She’s 16, give her time.” So despite thinking they are both very talented ladies, I’m at peace now with my decision to leave their fan camps. Matt Giraurd seems to be an every other week thing for me. I love him or ‘meh’ him. Last night veered on the side of ‘meh.’ Anoop, man, he’s found his place with ballads which consistently pleases the judges but sometimes I have to wonder if he’s even happy being pinned in this little box. Whatever keeps him in the competition? Maybe I’m over analyzing. Last night was just okay for me. Oh and Danny, well we just won’t go there. If you don’t know my opinion on him by now, you can just search all my other American Idol related posts and you’ll soon catch on, but I’m tired of bitching on it.

So we’re leaving early early early Thursday morning, dropping the kiddo off at my MIL (from there he will be getting carted around to several other relatives for what should be the weird mid-week weekend sleepover extravaganza of his life) and heading to the airport for our flight which departs at 8:50am but between the 90 minutes of preparedness time they want you to have and the hourish commute to get to the airport, it still means a god awful morning. We should arrive in Dream City by 1:30pm. Apartment hunting, town drooling and then a dinner at the hotel restaurant which Dream Company is footing the bill for. Sweet. I’m hoping and praying the hotel has cable and that I’ll be able to watch Bones and Grey’s Anatomy, because I realized last night that tv owns half my life. Sad but true. I’m already accepting that I’ll be missing America’s Next Top Model this week. It conflicts with tv times tonight and Friday when it reruns we will literally be in the air on our way home. Drats.

Friday is the actual interview with Dream Company. Dan prepared a 20 minute presentation on a previous work project of his that he has to present to the big guys. Apparently there will be other candidates there also – I don’t know if they are hiring multiple people or if he simply has competition but the concept makes me nervous. Somehow, despite trying very hard to remain on the “if this happens” camp, I think I’d largely assumed it would. What if there is someone else coming there who is better? And they get the job? And we come home to our unemployment and disappointment and continue this search? ::sigh:: I know we’ll survive it either way, either way is a big thing to deal with, but ugh, I just want this to be over either way you know? I want to know where my life is headed by Saturday PLEASE.

So yeah, that’s about all the new and big. Not sure when I’ll be posting again as it’s about to get crazy busier (like busier than already) but I’ve got some posts up today and my weekend diversion’s is scheduled to post on Friday, so my blog won’t be completely silent without me. Hope you all have a great week!

Weekend Diversions: Grey’s Gossip, Gay Superheros and Gadget Lust

I’m giving you a little bit of everything today with nothing really related to the next thing. And I tried to make them all alliterative and stuff to SEEM related, but trust me, they’re not.

First up, if you know me, you know this has been front and center in my mind lately – Grey’s Anatomy, most specifically the whole Izzie / George thing – should they stay or should they go? First it’s just a silly little rumor which no one really takes seriously, then almost every member of the cast is confirming it, then almost every member of the cast is denying it as soon as Shonda does. Have they been forcibly silenced? Is all this gossip leaking on purpose to boost their known poor rankings this season? How do they have poor rankings in the midst of one of their most controversial, interesting seasons ever? I can hardly believe they aren’t getting enough viewers when almost everyone I know and don’t know has an opinion on the Denny thing – obviously they’ve watched if they know enough to complain.

I know people love to hate on Izzie, but you have to admit she’s one of the most interesting characters in the show and has had a lot of big arcs in this series. She’s also a gorgeous, successful level headed actress with a long career ahead of her. If she really wants to move on, I can’t necessarily blame her – but I also think that her character still has a lot of mileage left in her – and if Izzie leaves, it’s going to break Alex Karev who has finally become real and almost likable. Do the producers really want to do this to him again? Or will he leave, too? As for poor Georgie? Yeah I can see him leaving. His character has been all but silent for weeks and since it doesn’t look like there will be a George / Lexie hook up anymore, I’m really not sure where he could go from here. I liked the military angle, but if Shonda really has something even better planned, then I’m guessing I’ll be fine with it. Speaking of crazy – Sadie? Yeah I’m happy to see her go, but feel kind of weird about her whole character – I told my husband last night that Sadie on this show was kind of like forcibly hanging out with a drunk stranger. It’s awkward and uncomfortable and when they finally leave, nothing has changed on your end except having been uncomfortable and awkward for a few hours. Basically – what was that all about? Her role in Alias was way better, even though I hated her on that show, too.

Which characters story arcs your favorite this season? Least favorite? How do you feel about Izzie and George potentially leaving the show?

So in a completely unrelated change of tangents, apparently DC Comics is going to release their first ever gay superhero. And given their target audience, it should be unsurprising that by that I mean a lesbian. Yes apparently Batwoman will be a fan of the ladies – I support this, I mean, I think it’s about time and yet not even a little bit shocking really. I’m sure she’ll be a big hit with comic book fanboys everywhere.

*

Alright, and after that brief (awkward and uncomfortable?) intermission, have you seen the new Kindle 2? Apparently thinner than an iPhone it is admittedly drool worthy. But at $350 I still can’t see me ever justifying that kind of expense, especially considering you still have to buy the books you’ll be reading on it. Still, take a look at some of these pictures and day dream with me for a bit…

Auds @ Barking Mad is giving away a $250 Target Gift Card and all you have to do to be eligible to win is post 5-10 of your favorite posts from your blog. How could I not? Especially since I seem to love my blog like crazy. I found about 20-25 posts that I LOVE (am I a narcissist or what?). But I managed to narrow it down to 10 after long moments of soul searching and these are the results of that search, my 10 favorite posts, ranging from serious to seriously silly, in my opinion, they are the cream of my crop. Or something.

Dear ABC / TV Gods: You Are Giving Me An Aneurysm

aneurysm (ny-rzm)

A localized, blood-filled dilation of a blood vessel or cardiac chamber caused by disease, such as arteriosclerosis, or weakening of the vessel or chamber wall. A ruptured aneurysm results in hemorrhage and is often fatal.
In case of medical trauma, please send Grey’s Anatomy’s McDreamy or McSteamy and you know, a cardiac doc, too – not sure WHO that is anymore thanks to ABC and their need to F with me.
Seriously? ABC? First you go all anti-gay supposedly and I was just about to let you off the hook since Mark from Ugly Betty is maybe marrying his boyfriend and really after last week’s Grey’s, I’ll consent that it was time for Erica Hahn to leave. I can give you the benefit of the doubt for this. Because let’s face it, getting rid of Burke or even Denny (especially Denny) was far more traumatic, at least for me. I mourned that shit, whereas to Hahn I say, “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out…” But now that you’ve gotten rid of all of your Cardiac Surgeons, was this really the best time for causing me aortic trauma?
Ladies and gentlemen of the Blogland Press, I present to you the photographic evidence of the wrongdoings committed by ABC, Grey’s Anatomy and TV Guide to yours truly.
Example A:
Example B:
So TV Gods, I’m begging you – tell me what’s up? Why would you do this to me? Do you mean to cause me pain? Is this a not-so-subtle hint that you don’t want me watching anymore? That perhaps I need to find something more important to obsess about, like my family? Are you kidding? Seriously? Is it because I am supportive of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, trans-genders and one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eaters?
Am I the only person who has noticed this? Is it only being afflicted to my tv area? I checked the other cable listing for what Verizon Fios is showing and they too seem to think football is more important than me meeting Mer’s old best friend who isn’t Christina and witnessing the less-than-welcoming welcome that she is given by all of Mer’s current friends. That’s just absurd, ABC. Nobody cares about your little football game. At least ABC’s website doesn’t seem to. They seem to think there is a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on tonight.
Maybe the new episode is SO special that it’s by invitation only and much like every high school party ever held, I wasn’t invited? Is that it? Well for once, popular people, I gotta say, I’d like to be invited – I want to be a cool kid – I WANT MY GREY’S ANATOMY FIX!!!!!! Don’t make me the only person in the entire world who didn’t see this episode. Don’t force me to wake up tomorrow clueless while the rest of the universe is all “Seriously? SERIOUSLY?” and I’m like, “Seriously, what?” and nobody will tell me because it’s all AB information and I have to C my way out of it – screw you ABC. Screw you HARD.

Just when you thought you knew your ABCs…

I don’t want to talk about politics – yet. I’ll make my big votey post later AFTER I’ve voted this afternoon. I’m not going to post my Top 5 Tuesday post either yet, but be waiting for it later when I dish on the top 5 places I want to check out before I check out. And no, this isn’t my Teaser Tuesday post either – that will be also somewhere in the mix of the four (4) posts I have planned for today, with a teaser quote from Rumors: A Luxe Novel by Anna Godbersen.

So if this post isn’t about 1, 2 or 3, what could I possibly have to write about on this brisk Tuesday? What could be MORE important to me than today’s election, the fabulous book I’m reading or another terrific meme? What indeed. Well I won’t say it’s more important, but important to me, surely. And no, it’s not about John Mayer’s love life either. It’s not about 1, 2 or 3 – folks, I want to talk about ABC and their sudden bout of blatant homophobic anti-gay absurdity.

Apparently with no writer’s strike to cause trouble to my favorite shows, something else ridiculous had to hit the Fan – the Fan being me. Two of my favorite shows have been hit with the stupid stick this season and it isn’t the writer’s faults, it’s all on ABC. Actress Rebecca Romijn—who plays transgender Alexis Meade on Ugly Betty was recently fired from the hit show, her character hopping on a plane to France to meet the boy that she apparently fathered before becoming a woman. Daniel Junior. I didn’t realize at the time that anything was amiss but this morning my RSS feeds were flooded with the bad news. ABC also forced the hands of Shonda Rhimes who let actress Brooke Smith go – Smith plays (played?) Dr. Erica Hahn on Grey’s Anatomy (you know my favorite show ever) after getting orders from up above. Shonda says the following about the firing of Brooke Smith:

Clearly it’s not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with ‘another lesbian.’ If you’ll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season.

Whatever. It’s pretty obvious to me that her hands were tied in this situation. I highly doubt those are her actual opinions on the subject, but I’m also pretty sure that if she said what she really felt that her shows would be canned faster than you can say … a really fast word. Point is, she’s not stupid. And I’m not upset with her at the moment. I think the news speaks for itself. Regardless of who is to blame Smith’s last episode airs in two nights and her departure is neither obvious or well explained. In an interview with my favorite spoiler source, Michael Ausellio, Smith says a lot about being let go including the following snippet:

When did you find out?
I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she’s gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene — one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, “When is this happening?” And they said, “The [next episode] is your last,” which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden.

How are you written out?
I’m not written out. My final scene is just me heading to my car. I honestly don’t know what happens in the next episode. I heard not much. [Quick sidebar: This sheds new light on Mary McDonnell's arrival next week as a top cardiac doc.]

Who broke the news to you?
Shonda.

Did she seem upset?
She did seem upset. I wasn’t having a very good week that week. I was like, “Oh, God, what is it with this business?!” And she said, “No, no, no. You are such a great actress. We love you.” It seemed like some decision came down from above. It didn’t feel like it was her.

So, first Alexis and now Erica, but the hits don’t stop coming there folks. Spoilers have been out for weeks now about the upcoming guest spot of Melissa George (from Alias) who was originally going to be a lesbian herself, with a purported past relationship with Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo). Apparently this story line has also been axed. George will still be there as a guest star (for now) but not as a lesbian.

“Melissa came on as a lesbian character,” a reliable insider tells me, “but they changed the script and now she isn’t. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere.”

The rumor mill is now talking about the possible departure of Sara Ramirez who plays Callie, the other half of the Callica lesbian relationship which has been axed. This is all speculation (for now), but according to Grey’s Anatomy News the following rumor was started at the Television Without Pity forums:

I’ve just spoken with a contact at AfterEllen.com and she is confirming that Brooke Smith is not the only one being let go. Apparently Sara Ramirez will be exiting at roughly episode 15 or 16 and they’re jockeying for an interview with her. According to what I’ve been told, Melissa George has been brought in for Mark’s character because the ABC brass wanted a ‘name’ actor for him and liked Melissa from her stint on Alias. The head honchos are the ones who lured Melissa George into the show and asked Rhimes to create a backstory for her that would connect her with Meredith (or another established character) to ‘ground her’ with roots from the beginning.

So what’s the deal ABC? You can let go of Isaiah Washington for making gay slurs but then get rid of every gay character and storyline you can find? Is all of this bull headedness coming straight from ABC or an even higher source? Am I the only one outraged by this?

It’s About Freaking Time

I’ve only been waiting for freaking forever for this.

I feel like this was more important than MerDer.

I know that’s a lie but it was a close second.

Now will Booth and Brennan please get the memo?

Than I can be completely satiated. :) Or okay…

Lexie and George, too.

And Cristina & McSoldier.

Okay… I’ll admit. It will never be enough.

But I’m still thrilled!!!

Thursday 13: Seattle Grace Style

For this week’s Thursday 13 I’d like to continue in the silly celebrity-obsessed mood that has taken me over since reading about JNatalie being On The Market again (even though I hadn’t been aware that she was off the market in the first place). But I won’t bulldoze you with more of that topic, instead, let’s talk about Grey’s Anatomy!

The new season is starting tonight and there have been speculations galore about what the new season will bring, but let’s talk about the 13 things that I’D personally like to see in this season’s two hour premiere:

  1. There are rumors that someone on the show will be pregnant, but nobody seems to know WHO – most fingers point to Callie being the obvious suspect, what with all of her hussying about last season, but I think it would be MORE fun if it were a pregnant MAN now that we know that’s possible. And if Callie wants to BE the pregnant man, I guess that would be okay, but don’t you think it would be more fun if somehow Dr. McSteamy himself got pregnant? Somehow??? It is a medical drama, it could happen!
  2. Alex and Izzie just HAVE to get back together. I’m so tired of Izzie lusting after the wrong men – George, seriously? It was cute for exactly one minute. And Denny was fun, but he’s dead and gone so unless she also wants to be dead and gone I say she OPEN HER EYES and admit that she’s hopelessly madly deeply in love with one adorable Alex. Seriously.
  3. I am happy with MerDer for the moment, so I say they can just be happy and lovey and that Derek cannot die in a car accident and that Rose can NOT ruin this for them. And they should move in together post haste.
  4. Hmm and what about Lexie? I see her eyeing one George and while personally I think they’d be GREAT together it doesn’t seem like the writers want to actually take that route, so if she can’t be with George, who SHOULD she be with? Not McSteamy, please. Any ideas? Speculation? Girl needs some FUN is all I’m saying.
  5. I really want the Chief and his Wifey to get back together and for good. They love each other, it’s adorable. They should be all lovey dovey and OHHHHH maybe somehow SHE could be the prego person? Then I wouldn’t mind it not being a man because they could be all, “How is that possible?” and the chief could be all “no way” and his wife could be all “YES WAY, BAM!” I’d love it.
  6. Speaking of marriages that need to be worked the frek out, can Bailey and her man please get some couple’s counseling and work this out? Because I’m just not feeling it. I know there is drama but I really want them to work their ish out. For the BABY, please?
  7. I’m kind of bummed that Pacey won’t be making an appearance now that he’s all Fringey (great show btw) – can one of my other boyfriends make an appearance? John Mayer, are you free? You could totally have an affair with Sandra Oh before you hook up with JNatalie, I give you permission.
  8. Speaking of S.Oh, Cristina needs a better arc this season – no more moping, and no more annoying as all get up competition with Scalpel Up Her But Hahn. Cristina is the bomb and she needs to come into her medical own and maybe get a boyfriend (but I hear that’s definitely happening anyway which is awesome) because there is life after Burke the Jerk.
  9. I think for some reason there should be another Seattle Grace Prom because appart from Denny dying that was FUN – the DRESSES – the high school drama – it was fun. Or how about a homecoming parade? Floats could suddenly start gliding down the aisles, but instead of being on those floatey things, they could be on hospital beds? Work with me, I think it’s brilliant.
  10. If Addison comes back, it has to be so she can be in the MerDer wedding. And she has to be elated and engaged herself to the Private Practice hottie guy whatshisname. And then she’ll go back with her gorgeous red hair and awesome bad assed self. I love her, but not when she’s making MerDer drama, mkay?
  11. Who else could randomly come back? McVet? I kind of liked him, maybe he could be Lexie’s new boy toy? I can actually totally see that, there would be weird drama but Mer is happy with Der so she’d get over it and it could be AWESOME.
  12. I wanna see more babies – we need another prenatal doc to replace Addison’s medical status. A neonatal specialist, is that was she was called? Maybe it could be a man though, that could be hot? The gorgeous pediatrician surgeon guy? He could be Cristina’s new man in the permanent sense after John goes off with JNatalie – maybe JNatalie could be on the show, too, and STEAL John from Cristina and then McPedi could help Cristina get over it in the on call room?
  13. Maybe Hahn and Callie could adopt a child together since Callie isn’t pregnant anymore in my imagination. Dakota Fanning perhaps? Or that adorable little boy from Finding Neverland and everything else.

Blogging About Not Blogging – Top 5 Tuesday Style

For today’s Top 5 Tuesday, Dana @ Supernanny Where Are You? wants to know, what are your Top 5 Hobbies/Things you like to do when you’re not blogging? This question was suggested by the brilliant Rachael @ Mommy Learns to Blog, so be sure to go and thank her for this weeks question! And as usual, be sure to check out all the other participants of Top 5 Tuesday, who are linked up over at the main post here.

So… what do I do when I’m not blogging? Let’s see…

  1. Well you all know I love to read. Usually during MM’s nap I’m torn between the urge to hop into a good book or hop into bloggy land – which side wins usually depends on how much blogging I have to catch up with or how soon my current read is due back at the library. Right now I’m reading Pride and Prejudice for the 5 Minutes for Book’s Classics Book Club, and I am itching to get back to reading more…
  2. I also love to peruse a good magazine. I have subscriptions to Parents magazine, Cookie, Family Circle and Real Simple and also like getting Rachel Ray’s magazine from time to time and a few other. Sometimes I feel like I have more magazines than I know what to do with – other times I feel bored with the rotation and want to try something new. Most of my subscriptions were paid for by lovely friends and family as a birthday or Christmas present and I think that’s pretty clever!
  3. My hubby and I love to watch movies, and get most of them through Netflix or the Red Box in our local Stop & Shop (which is right next door to our apartment, conveniently). During the fall and spring we watch mostly tv at night but this Summer we’ve been renting a lot of new and old movies and we also love getting into new TV shows by renting seasons through Netflix and being able to watch several episodes at a time. That’s how we got into Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Alias, Veronica Mars and a few others, too, I think.
  4. We also love to play card games and a few board games. Favorites include rummy, Phase 10, Apples to Apples, Life (any version), Monopoly, Mastermind, Battleship, In a Pickle, Balderdash, Wise or Otherwise, and Password…. There are others I like, but those I’d say are my favorites. Like I said, we like playing games! :)
  5. I love to travel. Obviously, for financial reasons, I don’t get to do this much, but I love getting out of town and exploring new places. I’m a huge nerd and love going to museums and historic sites, but also love just eating at a new place, sleeping somewhere else, far enough away to potentially forget about the day to day humdrums. And as I’ve mentioned several times, there is no end to my wanderlust. I want to see everything this world has to offer.

What do you like to do when you’re not blogging?

Aloha Friday: Fall TV

So as you all probably know by now, In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. She’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life’s blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

So my question this Friday is:

What fall tv show are you MOST looking forward to, and why?

I’m very torn right now between answering Grey’s Anatomy or Bones. When the seasons ended, I’d have told you Grey’s Anatomy with no hesitation whatsoever. But this summer my husband and I started renting the Bones shows due to sheer boredom and got SO hooked on them that we went from, “Sure this looks ok?” to “DO WE HAVE A NEW BONES DISC TO WATCH TONIGHT?????” to “Oh Zacky, how COULD you?

And see, here’s the thing – my husband tolerates my Grey’s obsession and watches it with me, but Bones I think I can safely say he genuinely loves about as much as I do – although there are few tv shows that he genuinely gets wrapped up in the way I do – he just isn’t that kind of person.

So what’s my answer? Sorry, still a tie. I am avidly looking forward to Grey’s just as much. (BTW, we watch a lot of other shows, too, we’re big tv junkies in the normal tv seasons – hey it’s cheap – but those are the two shows that I’d be livid if I missed and no I’m not joking)

How about you?
