Daybook: June 15th

Outside my window: It’s apparently 78 degrees – according to my little digital clock / weather genie it’s also 78 degrees inside – time to turn on the AC! I am not sure if it’s as oppressively hot as it feels or if I’m just humongously pregnant but for me, it’s hot. It’s also gorgeous – perfect fluffy white clouds in a light blue sky, really really pretty. See:

I am hearing: The hum of the AC – aka my savior this afternoon. I already feel much more comfortable after only a few minutes of it running. I’m sure in another hour I’ll be like “Holy Christ it’s cold,” and I’ll turn it off again so we can restart the cycle all over again and I can be hot and sweaty and complain-y in time for Dan to come home. Lucky guy.

I am thinking: about having another snack but I’m not sure what I want to have – or should I say, I know what I’d like to have but I’m not certain it’s in my best interest and I’m trying to talk myself into something healthier.

I am hoping: that I can decide where to take the hubby for Father’s Day and in the off chance that he reads this post that’s all I can really say about that for now.

I am reading: The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan which I was super excited to read and then I got it and for a couple minutes I was worried I wasn’t going to like it at all but now I’m loving it and my only concern is that it might take me a year to read it – nonfiction is just not as easy for me to get through as my typical light hearted / light headed reads. Go figure.

I am creating: Top secret stuff – I’ll tell you about it next week.

I am wearing: SHORTS! If you know me, you know that’s mildly crazy and hasn’t happened in like, years. My legs look a lot better than I was expecting, which is not to say that I’ve become a goddess or anything – but I swear they look better than I remember. Makes me want to pop this baby out so I can go buck wild cardio style and really see some results.

In the kitchen:

  • Monday: Chicken Nuggets w/ homemade onion rings & corn on cob
  • Tuesday: Fettuccine Alfredo w/ spinach & grilled chicken & Italian Bread
  • Wednesday: Hot Dogs w/ macaroni and cheese
  • Thursday: Grilled Cheese & Italian Wedding Soup (courtesy of Campbells)
  • Friday: Salmon Burgers – maybe with a salad?

Around the house: I’m not entirely convinced the dryer was finished – I don’t really think it went any faster today than normal. This does not make me happy. I really don’t feel like bugging maintenance again especially if it’s not broken and it’s just a suck-tastic machine. Can I have a house?

Plans for the week: Figure out Father’s Day – don’t be a lazy slouch all week – stay cool. Window shop for infant car seats so that I can shop shop for one if I can’t convince Graco to give me one for a review. Please Graco?

One of my favorite things: Fun weekends with the family – we had an awesome weekend with balloon animals, ice cream, tricycles and more! And okay a lot of unnecessary walking but that just makes all the ice cream calorie-free, right?

(The Last) Monday Morning Meme: June 15th

Monday Morning Meme at

Today is the last Monday Morning Meme which has been hosted faithfully by Write From Karen! Karen says:

I’ve been doing the Monday Morning Meme for one year now and I think it’s time to call it quits and turn my attention to other projects. It’s been a fun ride and I thank all of you who participated! I hope it helped you get through your blogging Mondays. :)

I know I will miss these fun weekly questions but I’m sure she has plenty of other tricks up her sleeves and it’s hardly like I’m at a loss for blogging material these days, so I suppose my heart will go on. But in the meantime, for old time’s sake…

June 15th Questions:

1. How has your life most benefited from the Internet? Whether it’s meeting people, cutting business overhead, finding rare collectibles, or simply sharing funny cat pictures, share how the web has made life easier. This blogging world is certainly one of the better things I’ve gotten out of the internet but I’m not sure it’s the biggest area – the ability to research anything instantly at length has been by far the biggest advantage I’ve gotten here. My move to Wisconsin would not have gone as smoothly without the internet to research different apartments and town information, go online to get my mail held and then forwarded and my address changed, and more. I use the internet to search for recipes to make for dinners and desserts, the plan vacations and birthday parties, to look up word definitions and wikipedia entries and more. The sheer volume of information that can be found online is surely the best thing about the internet.

2. The getaway car is waiting outside – where is it taking you? I hope it’s taking me to the beach or an air conditioned wonderland or indoor pool – basically wherever we are going will be a rescue from the HEAT – this poor pregnant woman is sick of the summer weather already and that’s just sad because normally this would be my favorite time of the year. The good news is I’m wearing shorts right now and I don’t entirely hate the very sight of my legs. I’m not saying they are rocking or anything but they aren’t disgusting. So either my expectations are lowering or they are getting thinner somehow. 😛

3. Do you reply to comments on your blog? All of them? Or just the really interesting ones? Do you go back to check if the authors or the blogs you comment on reply to your comments? I like to send an email reply to any interesting comments or ones which contain questions and I also tend to post those replies here on the blog. I like when others do the same but surely don’t expect it and I don’t think I’ve ever gone back to a blog entry to check for a response. My attention span isn’t that lengthy.

4. On average, how long does it take you to make an important decision? Do you gather a lot of information prior to making the decision, or do you go with your gut in the heat of the moment? It’s sort of a combination of the two – if I can anticipate a decision to be made I will spend months thinking about it, researching it and coming up with a potential game plan long before the decision is needed – but a lot of times when that moment comes I’ll go with my gut regardless of the results of those plans. Basically I’m insane.

Your turn.
