Welcome to mommablogsalot.com, my little corner of the blogiverse. If this is your first time here, let me introduce myself and my blog and tell you a little bit more about us:
My name is Jen and I am the extremely proud momma to two slightly larger than little kids, the dog-mom to a neurotic one-eyed dog with no end of health issues and the wife to a very tall bearded fellow who does most of the grown upping in our family but also spends a ton of time playing video games with the kids for good measure. Basically, I’m living the dream.
My husband and I moved from New England to Wisconsin about ten years ago and I’m starting to wonder if we’ve been here too long to call ourselves new in town? Also are we old now? How can we tell for sure and what does that mean? Can I still wear punny t-shirts and watch tween romance movies? Am I supposed to have a moisturizing regimen or a 401K yet? What exactly is a 401k? I’m not sure.
My eldest child (“MM”) is thirteen years old which means he’s almost as tall as his mom (check back next week and he might be taller). He’s obsessed with Minecraft, Dungeons and Dragons, YouTube, and Mario Kart. He’s officially old enough to know that school is boring and most of life’s situations require an eye roll. He’s surprisingly sweet for a kid his age though and he’s old enough to be a big help with things like yard work, carrying heavy bags, rearranging furniture and doing the laundry. Even better, he is a willing and cheerful helper. Basically he’s slowly rendering me obsolete. Yay!
Then there’s my daughter, a feisty diva child of ten years (known here as “BB”) who is never not singing (I mean seriously guys, never). She loves manga and unicorns and sour skittles all the sparkly things in life. Her grammar might be more meticulous than mine and she has recently announced plans to be an inventor or a unicorn when she grows up. She runs on two moods: elated and devastated and I’m pretty sure I’m raising the next Anne of Green Gables. If you ask my daughter how she is doing she will tilt her head back and sing, “Amazing!” and then conspiratorially add, “You know, just my usual” with a wink that leaves adults flabbergasted the first time and delighted every time afterwards.
(read more about BB here).
Then there’s me. I’m a fangirling super mom. I spend my time volunteering at my kids school (like a lot), talking friends into going out for coffee with me, cooking up quasi-healthy dinners for the family, taking 8 million pictures, writing, reading, gaming and watching varying levels of quality television. I love stories in all forms and enjoy as many of them as I can find whether in the form of a book, movie, television show or good song.
