Bump Report: 24 Weeks

Baby Blueberry’s growing steadily, according to babycenter.com she’s gained about 4 ounces since last week, putting her at just over one pound and almost one foot long (picture an ear of corn). Her brain is also growing quickly now, and her taste buds are continuing to develop. Her lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

The next time I go in for a doctor’s appointment I’ll be taking a glucose screening test (also called a glucose challenge test or GCT) which checks for gestational diabetes, a pregnancy-related high-blood-sugar condition. My next appointment is in about 3 weeks. At my last appointment it was confirmed that BB is growing right on track and that my weight loss efforts are basically terrific – yay! I am definitely still feeling movement and pregnancy-wise everything is pretty much honky dory right now. Our biggest concern at this point is what issues might come about if we move and / or change our health insurance. Would a new health insurance consider Baby Blueberry a pre-existing condition? Will our current health insurance cover us if we move to a new state? Will we even get the job and be moving at all? We don’t really know the answer to those questions and many more right now which can make for some stressful concerns but I’m trying very hard to worry about things when they are happening and not too soon before. Still, you know me – I’m going to go on worrying anyway.

That’s about all for this week’s bump report – admittedly boring as ever. Right about now  I just want that baby already! 🙂

I don’t have any tricks of the trade…I haven’t had to make bday cakes yet. I know that mine won’ t ever be as cool as yours, since I am not very good at baking or decorating! 🙂

My favorite is chocolate with cream cheese frosting!

I could never have the glucose test as I couldn’t keep the sugared water down. Glad to hear all is going as it should be.

I hope things start to clear up for you and the plan is revealed. Hopefully, the insurance works out, too.

I’m so bad at commenting your weekly report but I am reading, I promise. The glucose test… everyone dubs it as “aweful” but truthfully it’s not so bad. Like watered down orange soda. Nothing you can’t handle!

I actually failed the glucose test w/ Hanae. The funny thing about that though is that every week I dutifully went to the military clinic for a blood draw & every week the techs would ask me if I was sure I had gestational diabetes.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about! Well, other than swallowing that nasty stuff! lol

And as far as insurance goes I am almost 99.99999% positive that pregnancy is one of those conditions new insurance has to cover. Call Kaiser Permanente or something. Betcha they could tell you.

Oh the joys of the glucose test. Thankfully I always “passed” and thanks to binge drinking in high school..cough.. I mean college, I could gulp that nasty orange sugared beverage in no time.
