Did you know it’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week (September 14th-18th)? They are celebrating today with a fun reading meme!
-edit – Being the dork that I am, I JUST read the full directions for this meme, like an hour after posting it. I was supposed to keep my responses as short as possible, with an attempt at creativity. SO – I am going to now EDIT each of my responses, but keep the original with a strikethrough like this. So you can see the editing process – what it looks like before and after. The former newspaper editor dork in me is way too excited about this!
- Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? No, I typically read before bed, long after my nighttime snacks! No.
- Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? I might use a post-it note to make note of something or even just to mark the page, but I don’t write in books. Never!
- How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? Usually a bookmark, although I use that term loosely. It’s usually an old receipt or bit of paper. Bookmarks = random bits of paper
- Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? Both but usually it’s typically fiction. My last two books have been non-fiction which is very strange for me, so I’m kind of dying for some good fiction right now. Both
- Hard copy or audiobooks? print, I almost never listen to audiobooks. print please!
- Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? I prefer to finish the chapter – at the very least a paragraph. Sometimes a certain subject might end before the chapter ends and if I’m really tired, that’s good enough. End of current plot?
- If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Usually I’ll see if I can figure out the meaning by context or ask my husband if he’s around. It doesn’t happen often though. Read For Context OR Ask the Hubs!
- What are you currently reading? Right now I’m aimlessly sifting through several books, wishing they were something else nothing and everything
- What is the last book you bought? I couldn’t tell you! It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a book as we are trying to cut back on some of our spending. Can’t remember!
- Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? Typically I only read one book at a time, at least once I’ve settled on which book I really want to be reading. One At A Time
- Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read? I usually read in bed before going to sleep. I’d love to have a little outdoor reading nook though. Bedtime Stories Are Best.
- Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? I love both – series are wonderful and I tend to get addicted to them. Yes please.
- Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? I think everyone should read Lamb by Christopher Moore. I got a few friends reading the Twilight series and would also recommend Libba Bray’s series about Gemma Doyle – the first one is A Great And Terrible Beauty. The Spellman series by Lisa Lutz is also a favorite. I could go on, but I’m typing this one handed so I won’t. Several.
- How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) Right now, it’s only really organized by Read and Unread – but the Read shelf is organized a bit by series. Read OR Unread

Sigh. I wish I was as disciplined as you. My nighttime snacking usually IS right before I go to bed, with a good book in hand (and a glass of wine).

I’ve heard great things about Lamb and I keep meaning to read it but haven’t gotten there yet!
