I’m probably the worst weekly blog post writer ever. Also? I’m not a very consistent weight loss enthusiast. Some of you may remember that last week I decided to start a weekly weight loss column on my blog to help motivate me to keep working on my weight loss efforts, specifically hoping to tackle my lack of motivation in the exercise department. Well I haven’t completely jumped ship – I just forgot to write the darn post yesterday. I actually remembered while working out last night, but by the time I got home I’d forgotten again and Dan was doing something tech-ish that involved stealing my keyboard for most of the evening, so it just really wasn’t meant to be – but the important thing to take away from that is that I worked out yesterday!
I actually did fairly well this week with my workouts. I never did do any of the Netflix workout videos that I’d mentioned last week but I did try out the free step aerobics workout on my Wii that lets me work out while watching tv which I thought was pretty darn nifty but ten minutes pretty much did me in. I much prefer my walks outdoors, sporadic as they may be, they always last longer and leave me feeling refreshed and invigorated most of the time. And yesterday I tried something else new, which I’ll get to in a minute.
My diet overall has been good. I always behave pretty well on the weekdays and I’ve found my meal sizes have begun to shrink a bit, calorie wise, which I think is a good thing. I indulge a bit at night for now, but when I do stop nursing I think if I can re-curb the snacks, I’ll be fine – especially if I meet my weight loss goal before I wean the baby – then I’ll be all set! I started drinking tea again instead of coffee which, because of how I take my tea vs. my coffee, saves me 30 calories. Not a big difference, but it’s something. And I’ve tried to be diligent about working out the calorie counts of my meals preferably before I eat them, especially dinner which I’d stopped worrying about as I was usually fine until I accidentally ate a 900 calorie dinner at home because Dan forgot to mention the calorie count to me. Whoops. So I’ve been working hard for the past week to avoid making that mistake again.
Anyway, here’s my exercise update that I am excited to share with you that makes missing my post last night almost worth it because this is pretty cool. Last night during what was going to be a quick 1 mile walk in an effort to not blow the whole evening with no workout at all, I randomly decided to start jogging, or actually interval training (I think that’s what they call it) where you walk for one minute, then jog for 30 seconds, etc. I kind of guesstimated the times and just went with what felt right since I hadn’t planned on doing it and thus hadn’t brought anything to accurately time it. I also was not even a little bit dressed for the occasion, i.e. no sports bra and I was wearing jeans which might not have been a big deal except all my pants are a tiny bit too big for me (I know, to have my problems, huh?) so they kept falling off whenever I started to run. So I had to like hold my jeans up whenever I did a running spurt and really wished I had a sports bra on, but other than that… it was kind of awesome. Like it felt right. I can really see now how interval training would help to build up the endurance to get me jogging. Because seriously? I’m not a runner. I have no endurance to speak of and really didn’t think I could do this for awhile but lately when I’m walking I feel this like sensation of wanting to do more. So I tried it. And I’m planning to keep doing it until the snow comes this winter. My goal is to do that exercise on MWF and probably do the step aerobics on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Or something like that. I really do want to be more consistent and start scheduling exercise into my day so that it actually happens.
Oh and my weight loss results for this week? I’m down 2 pounds since last week! Here’s hoping for similar results this week.
Are you trying to lose weight, too? How has the last week been for you? What are your weight loss goals for this week?
My goals: Create a workout schedule, invest in a sports bra and work out pants

Hey fellow dieter! Glad to hear things are going well. I am still 3 lbs away from my goal and it seems to be taunting me! I do fairly well all week with my meals even leaving enough room for the birthday cake I made Chris at days end….but I’ve really dropped off on my walks…I need to see if that Walking at Home you talk about is on youtube because we so cannot buy anything at this point like that….its just a hassle to pack up and drive to the track and all….and walking on Maple ave is pretty impossible right now because there is road work going on taking up the side of the road on the route I walk…ugh. I havent lost anything in a week. Oh well…

@ Jennifer : Weekends are dangerous for me, too. I log everything I eat during the week but on weekends I typically take the time off so to speak, which makes it easier when we are going out to eat and I have no idea how many calories are in something. I still try to eye ball it and make smart choices but I allow for the wiggle room and for now that keeps me from going crazy. When that stops working, I’ll deal with it.
I think one of the biggest advantages I have is that my husband is on board and doing it, too, and doing it better truth be told. I feel for you not having your husband joining you in your weight loss journey. I think having a partner in crime helps a ton as joining something like Weight Watchers has just never appealed to me.

Ugh, I have recommited myself to following my Weight Watchers plan, which in and of itself is great. And like you, weekdays are usually not a problem for me, eating wise. But lookout weekends. I usually bust myself then. Luckily with WW, I have to write it all down, so last night, before bed, I was able to avoid eating a mini bundt cake since I didn’t want to write it down! LOL! As far as my exercise is concerned, I’ve only been consistently working out 3x a week, though I would love to up that amount. *sigh* It’s a lot when I’m doing all this and my husband still eats like there’s no tomorrow. 😉

That is a good weight loss. They say it stays off better if you lose it gradually at 1 to 2lb a week. Well done on the workout and running. You will get there. Don’t give up. Are you a sweet person or a savoury? If sweet, try meringues as a quick fix with no fat at all. I usually have snack a jacks for a savoury snack, they are like corn cakes.

Great job on the 2 lbs and the jogging! I too hate running, but I too have been making more of an effort at it and doing the short run on the Wii Fit. It’s only like 2 minutes but it’s better than nothing. I would do the longer run but that would require putting on sneakers (and yeah, a sports bra) and I do the other exercises barefoot like you’re supposed to on the Fit.
So far this week I’ve done the Fit twice – Monday and last night, each for 45 minutes.
My goal is do the EA Sports Active 30 day challenge so plan to start that next week.
