monday mentions: january 4th

Monday Mentions is an easy way to share any and all of the fun things you’ve discovered recently, online or otherwise. For more information read this post by the mastermind behind this whole thing, Jen @ Daily Mish Mash. Here’s what I’ve discovered this week…

  • Want to know more about where your meat is coming from and what kind of life that animal had before it found it’s way to your supermarket? The Beef Label Decoder at The National Geographic Green Guide shows you how to read the different logos on your food label. Click on any of the icons on their sample package of meat and find out what they really mean. I saw this at Lifehacker which you might notice I link to a lot. They quote the following: “Conventional cattle are fed on a diet of corn and grain, both of which contribute to common and painful health problems and can lead to higher levels of E. Coli bacteria in meat. Grass, however, is healthier for cattle and for meat eaters. Compared with grain- and corn-fed beef, grass-fed beef has less fat, less cholesterol and fewer calories. Grass-fed beef also has a higher concentration of vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids.”
  • Katherine Center wrote this post about putting one of those classic 1970’s corded phones in her kitchen – it made me want to get my hands on one and follow suit (when we have our own home, I might). Technology has an amazing ability to be a blessing and a curse sometimes – her post really highlights that well – a read I recommend highly.
  • Congratulations to Ellen Degeneres – she was named PETA’s Woman of the Year – she does so much for animals and our world in general, I’m thrilled that she is being recognized for all her good work.
  • Want to look at some beautiful pictures and then comment about how much you love them? Check out my 365 challenge blog and please, please, with extra sugary pleases on top, comment away. Really. I won’t mind. You know, whatev. Are you doing a 365 challenge this year? Let me know in the comments section here (or there) and I’ll check you out, too!

What have you discovered recently?

I loved that post about the corded phone. It really is true how much time I waste looking for my cordless.

I’m definitely going to check out the meat websites. Thanks for the links!
