Bedtime Stories

bedtime stories on 365 Project

We’ve been taking advantage of our library’s summer reading program and checking out enough books each week to have at least one new book to read every night – we keep track of the books and he wins prizes for reading so many books. Yesterday MM read a book called I Am Absolutely Too Small for School by Lauren Child- one of her many adorable books about Charlie & Lola about going to school for the first time – fitting since MM will be starting kindergarten in the fall.

In the book Lola is quite apprehensive about starting school and insists that she is too small and does not need to go anyway. Of course as the book progresses she decides that maybe school is okay after all and wouldn’t you know, after just one day she’s hooked. MM doesn’t seem to have much apprehension about going to school at all. I think he wishes he could start today! The only nervous one seems to be Worry Wart Mommy who cannot wrap her mind around her little baby being away all day. Ride the bus?? Ack!! Field Trips?? Oh my!! I’m sure I’ll get used to it pretty quickly, but it’s truly the end of an era in which mommy can keep her babies safe forever and ever.

BB fell in love with Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Eric Carle after we checked it out a few weeks ago and I splurged and bought her a board book copy at the store recently. They are now inseparable. I like that both of my kids seem pretty smitten with books. BB likes to point at the pictures and make mumbling sounds and pretend she knows what it’s all about, but every now and then she’ll see a picture she knows – like the puppy in Brown Bear, Brown Bear and get very excited about being so knowledgeable about such subjects. She’ll point and say “puppy” in her teeny tiny voice and then announce quite proudly “woof!”

My babies are growing up so fast!

Brown Bear was a fave in this house too. The just turned 7yr old is adament about tackling Harry Potter like right now. I’ve tried to explain that he needs to start out with his age appropriate chapter books, yet he thinks he needs more action than the “baby books” his age. Sigh!

I’ve been thinking about you and your new adventures with Kindergarden, you’ll be ok you’ve got a great support system! 😉

Hooray for reading! Brown Bear was my son’s favorite and I think the first book he read all by himself.
