So remember I promised you a totally all quality meme today, the Monday Morning meme hosted by Write From Karen, and how fabulous it would be? Well now it’s time to find out if I set myself up for failure, or if it really will be as fabulous as I’ve hinted at. I know I’m excited to find out, so let’s get started, shall we?
July 28th Questions:
1. What is your blogging style?
- Stir it up
- Can we talk?
- Observing the scene
- Stuff you want to know
Why is that? Tell us why you think your blogging style falls into one of the above categories. Are you okay with this style? If you could change your blogging style, what would you change it to?
I’m having an oddly hard time deciding what exactly these “themes” mean – maybe I’m too tired. If stir it up means different topics different days, well that’s me, but if it means causing trouble – well, no, not so much. Observing the Scene and Can We Talk? could probably both describe my blog – It tends to get very heavy with memes because I’ve an unquenchable thirst for filling out surveys and hopping on bandwagons, but I try to post other more substantial things also. I’d say the majority of my other posts are about parenting, books, and general life rants. I do a bit of blabbering about tv shows and movies that I like, and sometimes do a sort of product review if I’ve had a really good or bad experience with something. And some days I’m observing and other days I’m looking for more of a conversation within the blogging world. One thing that I do strive for, is that I try to make my blog about my life – whatever is relevant and interesting to me at the time, is what I try to blog about – so I guess if I could change my blogging style, I’d really just want to be more interesting, to thus create more interesting fodder for the blog. I would love to do more advice type columns, but to be honest, I’ve no idea what kind of advice I could really give you all. So I stick with what I know, which sometimes seems like it isn’t very much.
2. Have you ever read a book because Oprah suggested it? If so, what was the title and was it what you expected? If not, why not?
I actually have chosen not to read books merely because Oprah suggested them – I don’t like to read things just because they are trendy and popular – I follow my own reading path based on my current interests at that time. I don’t think Oprah is the end all know all of what is good literature – I’m not even entirely convinced she chooses those books, but that’s not really important to me. I’ve probably read some books on her list, but I wouldn’t know, since I no longer work at a bookstore and as such am no longer forced to hear what her latest recommendation is when 200 people come strolling in demanding to read it immediately.
3. Who do you turn to if your techie things die? Why this person? Are you very good at fixing techie things? Tell us your most successful, or most terrible, experience at fixing something techie.
Up until recently, I could pretty much handle it all myself – with a few small exceptions – for instance – I never learned to program my remote control in college and so whenever it broke, I’d simply invite the latest cute compter science major or engineer that I had befriended and lure him into programming it with promises of macaroni and cheese or a Futurama marathon. At home, my father could always fix anything I couldn’t, which wasn’t very often, but it seems my years are catching up with me and I’m no longer as hugely tech knowledgeable as I used to be. Generally speaking though, my husband can fix anything I can’t so I don’t have to look far anyway – go figure, another cute engineer that I lured into helping me – this time for life.
4. July is nearly over, any final words? (Sum up your month for us – the good and the bad).
I am exhausted – this month has been birthday / holiday crazy insane, with the added normal woes of nannying for my friend, raising my son, and trying to get caught up in life. We’ve hit a few money snafus, and are currently grounding ourselves which isn’t easy – but promise of a vacation in September if we continue behaving is somehow keeping me sane…
