8 Weeks and Counting – cartoon from Baby Gaga
I’m not really sure what this has to do with being 8 weeks pregnant, but it is funny. Right now, according to BabyCenter.com little Baby Blueberry is now roughly the size of a kidney bean and is developing little webbed fingers and toes!
He or She still hasn’t developed it’s little he or she bits, which will determine if I’m having a little Roxanne or Ricardo. Most of my friends and family desperately want me to have a baby girl and as much as I dream of the idea of little tutus and tea parties, I’m trying to remain neutral – because I already know how much fun boys can be, so I know ultimately I’ll be thrilled either way – either way you look at it, I’m VERY likely to get an adorable cuddly newborn baby. And that’s pretty cool.
According to the OB Liason person I spoke to I’m due July 25, only 2 days off from my estimate which isn’t bad. I don’t have any actual lab results back or anything but I do have that stellar nausea still lingering and according to my latest scores on Geo Challenge I’m developing a bit of a prego-brain, aka I’m getting stupider by the second – fun! We may want to stop at 2 kids or I might forget how to tie my own shoes.
I was flipping through this little pregnancy calendar that Similac threw in my Swag Bag and I noticed that for weeks 6 and 7 it mentions symptoms you may be feeling, but it words it just a bit differently than I’ve previously read and I felt it made all the difference:
Feelings of extreme fatigue, pregnancy-related nausea, tender breasts, and vomiting are signs that your body is adjusting to your pregnancy and they are perfectly normal.
Aha! Notice how they seperate nausea and vomiting as two different symptoms – I felt way less like a freak after reading that – and that extreme fatigue bit – that’s awfully different from just plain old tired. In fact I can feel fatigued without feeling tired or sleepy at all. It’s more like complete loss of energy very suddenly. That little quote up there, minus the vomiting, is pretty much my new permanent state of being.
I made the hubby take me to Babies’R’Us last night to pick up a little pack of those Preggie Pops which are supposed to be a natural cure for morning sickness – I was hoping since I only have the nausea it might work really well – well at 40 calories a pop I’m not sure how many I want to take in one day and the one I did take… well my results are inconclusive – I’m not convinced it did anything at all. Oh well. My son was super jealous that mommy got a lollipop and he didn’t and that was kind of cool.
We also looked at those $50 Leachco total body pregnancy pillows that are like as long as well two of me and you tuck it between your legs and it goes all the way up to your face, too – I want one, bad, but ouch they are expensive – does or did anybody use one? Is it worth that kind of money?
We also really want to get a double stroller and last night we perused the aisle a bit and a very friendly sales guy actually let us try fitting one in our car – a 2002 Toyota Corolla – guess what? Doesn’t fit – and according to sales guy, if this one doesn’t fit, none of them will. Great. I really want a new car. I looked at the Kelly Blue Book value and my car is possibly worth around $5,000 which is way more than I expected and then I found this super cute Voltzwagon Passat Wagon for only $6,500 – same year and mileage – which my mileage is good and 2002 isn’t very old at all and it’s a Voltzwagon. So tempting – but we’d probably end up taking out a loan to pay off the rest which would mean another monthly bill – or else we could start saving now and see how long it takes us, but then I’m thinking, “Am I trying to buy a bigger car so that I can buy a double stroller? Does that make sense.
And I’m unsure – on the one hand, I think we’ve already outgrown this car – I would really like more trunk space and more car space as well. It’s not going to cut it too much longer and this is a good price. The loan would be miniscule if necessary and I do think we could afford it. But then I think about our mattress loan which we can also afford but if we didn’t have that loan and this loan we’re thinking about – that’s like $100 a month we’d be saving. In our tiny apartment with our tiny car and we’d still have our crappy bed. I think at the end of the day it does seem worth it to me, I’m just very hesitant to spend money right now with the state of the economy. I’m not planning to buy any of these things for at least a year anyway – the stroller will wait until I think we need it (if we do), the car will wait as long as I can stand it, all these things will wait, because Baby Blueberry doesn’t need them yet. And neither do we, I guess.
I also really would love for BB to have their own bedroom, but looking at the cost in our area, that really isn’t going to happen. Too bad, but maybe it’s for the best. At some point we need to save up for a downpayment so we can buy a house because I don’t want to be apartment bound forever.
So where does this leave us? Unless we get a new car, we will NOT be getting a double stroller. Unless we get a 25% raise or more, we will not be getting a new apartment with another bedroom. Unless one of you convince me it’s worth it, I will not be getting a fun pregnancy pillow. Baby Blueberry the Kidney Bean is still making me tired and nauseous but next week is my first appointment with my new OB/GYN and I’m very excited!

So sorry the nausea has hit! I tried the preggie pops with Isabella…yeah, they didn’t help me either 🙂
And the double stroller…we need to start looking, too….we are thinking maybe a sit and stand? I have no clue though….
–Love how you are a week ahead of me so I can read on your blog what to expect 🙂

I totally roflol over that cartoon! My kids even got out of bed to see what was going on! ha, ha
I could see where the baby wearing would be a lot easier to do. Have you seen the strollers though that are basically for baby but then have a seat/standing place @ the back for an older child? It wouldn’t keep MM contained though but it’s another thought.
This might sound weird but smarties totally helped me w/ the nausea of both pregnancies & I don’t even like the darned things. Talk about weird.

I think the double stroller is very cumbersome. I had one with my older two..since they were practically twins (1yr 16 days) . If I would have looked more into it and been more knowledgeable, I would have looked into the baby wearing thing. I honestly think it would be so much easier and practical ..once you got used to it. You’d have your hands free for mm while the baby is just right there on you. Just my thoughts.
I’m super stoked for you and do you know who else is having a bambino? Kahlani at Island Life. You guys are probably due about the same time.

Those double strollers are unwieldy freakers…I am surprised by now nobody has figured out how to make them more compact!

Our double stroller drives me nuts…it is so huge…the kid that sits in the back spends most of their time kicking the back of the front seat…pain in the butt! Taking 2 kids anywhere is the equivalent of tying two cinder blocks to your legs and trying to get your errands done! LOL!

@ Andrea : Okay I googled for like a minute or two and if that’s a movie reference then I’m afraid I failed. But the yellow hat makes me think Curious George?

@ Andrea : When I was at the doctor yesterday, she asked me if I wanted to circumcise if it’s a boy and I totally heard, “do you want a c-section if it’s a boy?” and was like, “What does that have to do with if its a boy or a girl?” and the woman looked so shocked like I didn’t know what circumcision was – haha – she laughed hard when I told her what I thought I’d heard!

Why do you think I stopped at two children? I’m so dumb now I can’t stand it. I hate feeling so idiotic.
