Before you start whining about how I can’t diet because I’m pregnant and to go eat a box of donuts and be happy, hear me out. I hear you. I am not planning to do anything stupid. In fact, you won’t see much change on my end anytime soon. I’ll probably be that weird participant who updates to say, “I gained 2 pounds! Hurray!” But my GOAL is that when BB Kumquat etc. is born this July, that I’ll be able to tell you that I gained the preferred 15 pounds or so that any doctor would advise. And THEN after baby is born, and I’m all nursing like a champ and turning into Super Mom of Two, I’ll be telling you how fit and fabulous I feel and that I’m working out daily and the weight is coming off and I am so happy….
That’s my goal. That’s what I want. So for now, that means eating my recommended calorie intake, trying to do a decent 15 minute workout every day (at least) and keeping up with my body in this pregnancy. It does not mean gaining 70 pounds even though the baby will only weigh about 8 pounds when it’s born. Like I did last time. I have developed some really good habits since starting and finishing the Looking Fine by 2009 challenge @ Daily Mish Mash and creating a program with the help of my wonderful husband that WORKS so my goal here is to not F that up. I want to be able to look at some pictures of myself (even full body pictures!) without cringing or deleting it immediately. I’m tired of only being in 1/116 of the pictures of my life. I’m tired of the lack of energy. I’m tired of being tired.
I’m already doing a good job. It NEEDS to stay that way. I weight 207 pounds right now and I’m considering that a nice progress from what I weighed six months ago. That’s sick. I’m 5’2″ inches people – that’s truly, utterly sick and it needs to change. After the baby. And come what may, when this baby is born, at some point AFTER that, I will be kissing my big fat blog ass good bye. For good. So thank you TenaKim for starting this up and reminding me to hold myself accountable. And someone remind me to workout today.

You’ve already got the right mindset and a positive attitude and that’s half the battle! I have no doubt that you will succeed!

@ Jen : It’s 25 pounds if you are in good shape, i.e. not overweight, 15 pounds if you are overweight (I am) and 35 pounds if you are under weight (I am not). 🙂

I thought the recommened weight gain was 25-35 pounds. I’ve never heard of 15 pounds. I think if you enjoy your pregnancy, eat healthy and stay reasonably active, then you will be in great shape when the baby is born. Good luck!

having one already makes it easier to NOT eat as much-you just don’t have the time. Also, don’t forget to take your calcium-SUPER IMPORTANT!

@ Amy : I have had some friends who lost a lot of weight thanks to extreme morning sickness and yeah I don’t need that – my regular morning sickness was bad enough. But the thought of gaining ANOTHER 70 pounds – scares me straigh

@ Tena : I think my posts will be motivation enough for that! While you are getting skinny and awesome I’ll still be over here gaining weight even if I have good behavior!

My first pregnancy I gained 70lbs too but my 2nd I was so sick I did only gain 15. Not the diet you would want. It is awesome that you are so motivated to try and stay fit and healthy during your pregnancy. I know for me being pregnant was my excuse to eat whatever because baby was hungry 🙂 but looking back I can see how bad that was for me since I am still carrying that dang weight around!
You can do it!!

@ Karen : Thanks for the comments! I’m feeling pretty motivated, but when my husband went out of town last week I completely landslided on my exercise and didn’t really do a swell job on my diet and it just reminded me how easy it is to fall of the wagon. I’m trying to find enough ways to motivate me as possible and hold myself accountable because I know that I can do this if I just keep trying!

First off, the blog looks fabulous, darling! Really love the maroon/white color combo.
Secondly, KUDOS, girlfriend! What a healthy attitude you have!! Especially since you’re pregnant. You are exactly right, eat just enough to keep you and that baby healthy and then after the baby is born, and you feel ready, don’t push yourself too hard right after the birth, you know how that is, especially since you’ll be mom to two, get back on the workout wagon.
I have faith in you. Want to know why? Because you have realistic expectations and I just think that is wonderful. I’ll be your personal cheerleader! (If I could get my fat ass in one of those skimpy skirts, but you know).
