Daybook: October 19th

Today…

Outside my window: we’re having a heat wave! Give it up for balmy temperatures in the mid 40’s! We even have a high today of 59. This is kind of like when they raise gas prices astronomically high and then lower them to just slightly above what they were before and you catch yourself saying, “Wow look how cheap gas is!” and then you kind of want to punch yourself for considering that price cheap.

I am hearing: a Halloween-themed Winnie the Pooh movie on tv mingled with my daughter cooing / fussing on her playmat… My time is limited.

I am thinking: about all the miscellaneous things I want to do today: We just got new cell phones this weekend so I need to get to work on giving everyone the new number and I want to spend some more time playing with the new phone – finally a phone with a menu that makes sense to me and it’s super cute. I also have a ton of laundry to do and I’d love to take MM to the mall play area later. ALSO the dishes are only half done and the baby is still a bit fussy… but then she’ll stop fussing and play for a few minutes and I think she’s just not sure what she wants yet so I’m letting her play…

I am hoping: that you will vote for me at Write From Karen’s 2009 Fall Photo Contest – I thought I’d submitted a pretty good picture but so far I haven’t gotten any votes. ::mock sobbing::

I am reading: Queste by Angie Sage still – I actually had to re-check it out because it was technically due today and I’m only about halfway through it.

I am creating: a learning plan for MM. I picked up a cute little tracing workbook at Staples this weekend that has pages to trace all the different letters and numbers so I’m thinking of starting a Sesame Street style “Letter of the Day Week” – my bloggy buddy Jean did a similar thing with her boys Wordless Wednesday style and I want to really do it up and sort of create a quasi-home school preschool environment and get him doing more around here. With trips to the mall play area or playground (weather pending) as a sort of recess thrown in. The basic idea is pretty simple though. Each week we’ll learn a letter – try writing it, show him lots of things that start with that letter and incorporate some stuff into it like A is for Apple – let’s make apple sauce or apple pie and go outside and look for acorns and… You get the idea right? I’m sure it’s not original.

I am wearing: my favorite pajamas – the ones I got at Target recently. They are so soft and comfy it’s tempting to wear them all day.

In the kitchen:

  • Monday: Chicken with Broccoli and Mashed Potatoes
  • Tuesday: Fettucini with a pesto cream sauce and spinach
  • Wednesday: Grilled Chicken Burgers w/ mayo and sliced cucumbers and tomatoes
  • Thursday: Grilled Shrimp Caesar Salad
  • Friday: Soup and Sandwiches

Around the house: it’s pretty much same as usual still – laundry, dishes and the like

Plans for the week: change my phone number where needed, start making some trips to the mall play area, plan my Letter of the Week lesson plans, then this weekend we’re planning a trip the Y for their Kids Halloween Party, a trip to the local orchard for a Harry Potter-esque Halloween-ish bash and hopefully another trip to the Y to squeeze in some workout time in the fitness center.

A few of my favorite things: my new cell phone, sooooo pretty; also loving the great deals we got on some Christmas presents this weekend, impromptu trips to Stoughton, seeing Where The Wild Things Are in theater with the family while eating delicious pizza, getting cute little pumpkins for the kids…

A picture thought:

Aren’t they cuuuuute?

I got ya covered on the voting thing. You’re 18% so you’re getting there!
I think MM will enjoy his alphabet themed weeks.
We’re having a mini heat wave too with a high today of 70 something. Woot! Though, the rest of the week doesn’t look promising.
