Mama Dweeb just passed along the Honest Scrap Award to me and that means I get to pass it along to four of you! But according to the rules, first I need to share ten things about myself. I have no idea what I could possibly share that you haven’t heard already, but rules are rules, so without further adieu…
10 things you probably already know about me but might not…
- I am a nerd. I looked up the definition of honesty for the sole purpose of including it in this post somewhere so I could feel all clever about myself. Don’t be fooled.
- My son and I are infatuated with Ellen Degeneres’ talk show. We watch it together nearly every afternoon and he loves to sing along to the theme song and “dance” with Ellen and the rest of the audience at any opportunity. His second favorite part of the show (after the music) is when they play a game – like “Know Or Go” or “Sumove it Move it.”
- I am the only person in the household apparently who dislikes eating peas. And when I say dislike, you know I mean that I detest peas with a force so strong it cannot be shifted. My children and husband? Not so much. I think BB might like peas more than apples. I swear they are really my children.
- If I’m in a bad mood or stressed out or bored or it’s any day that ends in “Y” I like to put on some John Mayer and rock out. I might be his biggest non-crazy obsessive fan. Unless I’m crazy and then I’m just his biggest fan.
- I am having a hard go of potty training. Within 30 minutes of putting on MM’s “Big Kid Underpants” this morning, he not only wet them… he pooped. And it was terrible. I’m still angry. And very thankful that by “Big Kid Underpants” I mean “training pants with a waterproof cover.” (Are you offended by the potty talk? This is the honesty award you know, I’m not holding anything back.)
- I’m cooking up another Pioneer Woman recipe tonight – this time I’m making her potato bundles, a supremely simple recipe that is hopefully supremely delicious, too. She hasn’t let me down yet. She’s turned into the Better Homes and Gardens of my kitchen. I was staring at a big bag of potatoes that have taken a lot longer to cook my way through than I’d guessed, so I pulled up her website and searched for “potatoes” and luckily stumbled across this recipe. Now I’ve only got two potatoes left and I’m hoping that Dan or I can turn them into a baked potato lunch or breakfast potato dish later in the week. Cross your fingers!
- I abandoned a book today. I really hate doing that but it was time. One hundred or so pages into Little Children and I was starting to feel like I’d been hanging around with people I hated all day for no reason. It was clearly becoming an unhealthy relationship and I had to walk away. I’m planning to start reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater next.
- We started shopping at Aldi since switching to our “cash only” budget. You can’t use credit cards there (you also have to bring your own bags and use a quarter to get a shopping cart which you get back if you return it) so we hadn’t been going there but now it works out well and I love that it’s smaller with less crowds and oh my god so much less expensive. The really awesome part is that most of the food is just as good as the name brands you’d find at any other store for a fraction of the cost. There is less variety and you won’t find the bells and whistles of a Big Brand Store but I really like it.
- Tomorrow is Bunco night and I am seriously looking forward to getting out for some “me” time again with the little lady who had a really great time last month. Here’s hoping she manages to be as well behaved tomorrow night as she was the last time.
- I have honestly run out of things to say that seem interesting. I am hungry and should probably finish cooking dinner now, so let’s get on to the awards…
I’d like to pass this award along to four of my favorite bloggers:
- Amber @ Amber Page Writes is always delivering honest, hilarious and poignant posts about motherhood, womanhood and life. Love her.
- I can always count on Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? for great, honest product reviews and a peek into the lives of her adorable kids.
- Karen @ Write From Karen might be one of the most honest women I know – she always keeps it real and you’re just gonna have to like it or leave – but if you are anything like me, you’ll love it. Her blog is one of my must reads.
- You know I have to pass this along to my buddy Jean @ Working Momma 247 – she might be my twin, separated at birth and she definitely delivers nothing but the truth about her life in a family chock full of all things boy.
Congrats ladies, you know you all honestly deserve it. I’m sorry if I’ve already given this award to you twice – something else about me you should know? I have a pretty bad memory and a pretty short attention span…
What were we talking about again?

Thank you so much! The bloggy love is mutual.
I had to put down Little Children too. I really wanted to like it, but those characters are just so…awful! I wouldn’t like them in real life, and I didn’t like them in that book. I am reading some total trash right now, “Chasing Harry Winston,” I think it’s called. No literary value at all, but a nice escapist read, for sure.

On the potty training – stick with it. It’s hard, I know. And try not to get mad (easier said than done), he’s not doing it on purpose (on less he’s my son and he is). He WILL have accidents. And just when you think it’s never going to happen, he’ll get it. And if he doesn’t, then try again in a few months. No kid has gone to kindergarten in diapers! (well typical kid anyway, special needs kids often do. But he’s not special needs.)
I’m sorry you hated Little Children after I recommended it. I hate when that happens! But I do understand why you would not like it.
And finally, you were in my dream last night! We were in a huge house and I went to take a shower and when I came back you had painted the rooms and they looked amazing. Weird.

First I’m so glad that you feel we could be twins, because I was beginning to feel like I was being psycho stalkerish with all the crazy things that we have in common like our detest for peas, and all things hate of the phone.
I finally checked the link on Little Children as I thought it sounded familiar. I picked it up at the airport a million years ago and probably got just as far as you did and decided I couldn’t do it either. Maybe it gets better but a hundred pages is way to far in to not improve.

Enjoy your me time at bunco- well deserved. Take your time with pt’ing…it is a frustrating process but don’t worry, MM will get it.

I LOVE Ellen!!! She’s such a bit of sunshine every day!!! I have an Aldi near me but I never have cash. I always use checks so I don’t go there. But I hear it saves TONS!

Aww…thanks for passing on the award.
And, I love that YOU are having potty training issues..sorry, I couldn’t resist.
I’ve tried to do Aldi, but I usually have a pretty specific list that revolves around meals and it’s hard that they don’t always have everything. But, I’ve heard their wine is really good:)

Those potato bundles sound yummy. I haven’t made them before but I’ve made potatoes in a foil packet before and they are awesome that way.
