aloha friday: it's fun to play at the YMCA

The fall YMCA program guide came in the mail yesterday and after flipping through it I decided I wanted to put MM in a couple of sports classes this fall. They are super inexpensive for Y members and seem geared for age appropriateness. The classes I’m looking at are for ages 4-6 and say their emphasis is on fun and teaching teamwork – that sounds perfect to me! I’m planning to put him in T Ball for the first half of the fall and indoor soccer for the second half. I hope he loves it!

So my Aloha Friday question(s)  is/are:

What was your child’s first sport and how old were they? Did they like it?

If you haven’t had a kid in sports, which sports / extracurriculars would you want them to try?

My daughter took gymnastics and loved it. My son played t-ball and hated it. But he hated anything that wasn’t at home. lol

Alex started soccer when he was 5, which was the minimum age in our town at the time. He was also in a Swim, Gym and Fun class at our Y when he was 4 but the Gym part was just different games each week. He didn’t understand soccer at first but I think once he figured out what was going on, he enjoyed it more. He’s already signed up for the fall season so I guess he still likes it!

Zach will probably start baseball next spring as T-ball starts at 4 here.

We’re just now starting into football. We’re kinda late bloomers on organized team sports for the boys. I will say this was the first week and I’m completely worn out already.

My kids have not played a team sport yet. My son started swimming lessons a couple years ago & he also does a basketball clinic in the summer.
