Bloggy Award Extravaganza: And The Winners Are…

So I’ve been hoarding a bit of bloggy love, and then I got MORE bloggy love – and I thought I’d better pass some of this out before it gets ridiculous. Thanks to the wonderful bloggy ladies Scrappy Girl @ Serendipity and Meg @ Faith & Gasoline for the following bling. I’m going to post all three awards & their respective rules and then the handful of bloggers I’ve decided to award today. One award say to pass it on to 8 people, one to 10 people, one to 7 and one doesn’t appear to specify at all – I’m going to just completely toss that out the window and award 15 bloggy friends of mine the blogging award(s) of their choice – kind of a choose your own adventure. I probably stole this idea from someone far more clever than myself but my pregnant brain isn’t giving me any hints – if you’re the clever genius please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due and probably you should talk all four of these awards twice, mkay? Ready?

Here are the rules:

“These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

The Lemons to Lemonade Award
The rules of the award are as follows:

  1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
  2. Nominate at least 10 blogs that show great attitude or gratitude.
  3. Link to your nominees within your post.
  4. Let the nominees know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
  5. Share the love and link to the person from who you received your award.

With this award you need to pass it on to seven blogs, which you really enjoy reading. Easy peasy.
This award appears to have no rules so I’m thinking you can just make shit up – that could be fun, no?
Alright – and the winners of the loot of their choice are:

Why yes, this is in alphabetical order. No, I’m not capable of winging things and going all willy nilly. Congrats to the fabulous fifteen and happy blog blinging!

March 13: Happy Birthday Dear BLOG, Happy Birthday To You!

Today is my blog’s first birthday!  To begin my celebration of mommablogsalot.com turning one years old, I first thought it appropriate to send a birthday card to myself. But then I couldn’t choose – so I am sending myself five birthday cards, just because I can. And by send, I mean I’m going to post them here. First off, I’d like to formally invite myself to my blog’s birthday party – otherwise I might not show up and that would be embarrassing.

Why thank you self – I’d love to come to my blog’s birthday party! Did you know, blog, that you share the same birthday as American singer / songwriter Neil Sedaka, Kathy Hilton (mother of Paris and Nikki) and Bloodhound Gang member Spanky G?

So I mentioned that I tried getting more birthday cake out of my blog’s birthday. Dan wasn’t quite as accommodating – if only I hadn’t remembered my own birthday a week ago it might have worked, but I guess a 7 day period was just too soon. I might have to actually wait until my next real birthday before I can ask for my own birthday cake again. Thank god for other people’s birthdays.

In the meantime, I got my blog this:

It just seemed fitting.

Now that I’ve had cake and opened some cards and given you some fun facts, I thought I’d get my blog some birthday presents. I’m pretty sure my blog has mentioned that it’s always wanted it’s very own bling so I got it the following:

I know I’m very generous. So I’m not going to beg you guys for like 1,000 comments or anything. I’m very excited to have been blogging for a year, but that’s been done already. I’m not going to give anything away, although it would be fun, I really can’t afford to do anything like that and again it’s been done. I’m just going to end this with my last birthday card to my blog, and then I’ll go change my son’s poopy diaper and watch Thomas with him.

Thanks for all the blogiversary wishes I’ve gotten already! Sue @ My Musings sent me this really sweet e-card that MM was over the moon for. He had a blast watching it and kept asking to watch it again and again. 🙂 Remember if you want to send my blog a birthday card, just send it to mommablogsalot (at) gmail (dot) com. I’ll post any other cards I get here, too.

– edit –

My very sweet besties over @ Momma’s Review just posted this adorable little “Blogiversary Card” for me – how sweet are they? Now I’m feeling all lazy for not photoshopping something for my blog, too. You don’t think it will hold that against me do you?

My bloggy friend Jen @ Stuff Jen Says wrote me a birthday post with TONS of fun little pictures with my name in them! I have no idea how she made them but aren’t they cool? This one is my favorite but you can click over to her post to see the rest:

Aloha Friday: When Did You Start?

It’s time for another Aloha Friday, the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend, in Hawaii and blog land anyway. As you should know by now, over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting and ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life’s blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today is my one year blogging anniversary, also known as my blogiversary. I am superly excited. I asked my husband about a gazillion times for a blogiversary cake but he seemed to think that wasn’t as well justified as an “I forgot my birthday” cake – or maybe just too soon after the last cake (and admittedly I might have been pushing it when I asked for blogiversary cake for breakfast this morning)? Either way, nothing. But that’s okay because I still fully intend to party it up today in blog land with or without his help. To kick things off, I’d like to ask you guys:

How long have you been blogging?

Do You Think I Can Get Another Birthday Cake Out Of This?

Remember when I forgot how old I was? There I was, doing my body test on WiiFit when all of a sudden, like a ton of bricks fell on me all of a sudden, I was twenty six. Not twenty five. I can no longer think of myself as “only a quarter of a century old” – I’m older than that – twenty six. I like spelling it out like that instead of typing 26 because it makes it look more important, more graceful and mature – you know, nothing like me whatsoever. Anyway, since that day, after my birthday cake induced sugar coma wore off, I kept having this nagging feeling in the back of my mind… I was forgetting something else. Something way more important than celebrating your birthday twice in two months.

Tomorrow is my first blogiversary! As of tomorrow I’ll be one of those seasoned, “I’ve been blogging for a year,” people. As of Saturday I can say, “I’ve been blogging for over a year now…” And if I hadn’t just now gone ripping through my archives in a panic, I might have missed my own blogiversary (I missed Every Other Milestone along the way – 100 posts, 500 posts, etc. All of them. No matter how hard I tried to commit it to my memory, it wouldn’t stick and I forgot). One day to spare people. That leaves me one day to orchestrate The Party of the Year. One day to bake myself a digital birthday cake. One day to run to the digital greeting card store and send my blog a virtual birthday card. And what about presents? This is awfully short notice and you know we’re in a recession… the money is a bit tight – even my fake cyber wallet is feeling the strain. And of course it might be way too late now to send out invitations.

So I’m going to make this one of those very intimate affairs, where only the creme de la creme of my blogging circle will be invited. Some nice (alcoholic free for me) wine, cute little zero guilt appetizers and desserts. Probably more wine. We can sit around on our respective comfortable seating arrangements and talk about “when our blogs were young,” the infant years of blogging, staying up all night agonizing over our comment counts, having to google “meme” to figure out what it was, if it was contagious and whether we should worry about exposing our friends to one. We’re so far past that now. We spread memes left and right with abandon, we make our own awards and give those to each other, too. We maybe care a little bit less about comment counts… We’re seasoned blogging professionals, “working hard” every day to bring our blogs up in the very best environment we can, nurturing them and helping them grow. We’re on our game now.

So let’s let loose and celebrate. I hope you’ll come to my little soirée tomorrow and celebrate my entrance into the Big Leagues of 1 Year + Bloggers. Want to know if you’re invited? Man if you’re still reading this post, you are my kind of people and you must come! Gifts aren’t necessary but won’t be looked down upon. BYOB please, and please if you really are drinking during my party (and you should) have a glass for me, too. I’ll be here with my Minute Maid Blueberry Pomegranate juice, pretending it’s wine for all I’m worth.

No need to RSVP. I won’t be making you wear name tags or forcing you sit next to that girl (she won’t even be invited, because you know she’d never read this). Please send all blogiversary cards (like the one below) to: mommablogsalot (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thank You For Being A Friend

It’s no secret that in the blogging world comments are a precious commodity. We covet them, crave them and seriously appreciate every little one that we get. A sign of a well loved post is often the comment count. So it makes sense that the sign of a well loved blogging buddy might be the number of times they comment on your blog. I have a large handful of regular readers and commenters but there are some special blogging pals who consistently send me comments on a regular basis – sometimes on nearly every post I write (and that is an accomplishment in a half). So I was super excited when Jen @ Daily Mish Mash awared me with the Star Commenter award, not only because it’s fun winning awards and being appreciated, but because I was super excited to pass the award along to some of my truly fabulous readers / commenters. So with all that said, I’d like to award the following:

To the following:

I’m sure there are more of you that I’m forgetting, but seriously look at that list – it’s humongous! I’m feeling all proud and sentimental and girly just looking at it. You guys (and all my other readers, too) seriously rock my socks off. ::meep::

Momma Fiddles With Gimp A Lot

Since I’m all crushing on my blog header right now, I thought I’d make a semi-matching button for the blog. I used my wordpress address for now, cause you know, blah blah blah, but maybe at some point if I get my url redirected and jazz I’ll change it. Either way, this one is here for now:

If you are a button user, feel free to add me to your sidebar!

auf Wiedersehen, Blog Roll

Mrs. Newlywed has just made the fabulous executive decision to nix her blog roll. Maybe some of you wouldn’t agree with this decision, but I can’t help eyeing my own blog roll in all it’s beastly form – knowing full well it’s out of date and out of control long. And then I think, “What does my blog roll mean?” I don’t use it to read any of your blogs – I have my Google RSS feed for that (never leave home without it). Do you guys actually check it? Does anybody care? I’m starting to think, maybe not. I’ve even got some of your buttons down at the bottom of my sidebar – are buttons the new blog roll? It’s certainly more fun!

So as Heidi Klum would say, As you know in fashion blogging, one day you’re in. And the next day, you’re out. Blog Roll? You’re out. I encourage you all to join me – we don’t need a blog roll to tell each other we love one another. Mrs. Newlywed has another great idea to replace her blog roll for good:

Instead I am going to try to do a much better job linking over to blogs when I see something interesting or funny or whatever. I am going to do a better job of pointing out new bloggers and bloggers who are just extraordinary.

Now who can argue with that?

No Kidding, John, You’re MORE Than Okay

Just read John’s latest blog post – you should, too, especially if you’ve never checked it out before. It’s always been a very interesting read – anyway this latest post is about celebrity gossip and Don Rickles, who according to John is the best in the industry when it comes to insulting someone with flair and true entertainment value, and living to tell about it. It’s a very interesting read that I think any of us bloggers who may occasionally make a snarky comment or two (who, me?) aught to keep in mind.

So go read his words on the subject, because per usual they are better than mine will be. And the next time I make a snarky comment about someone remind me to end with a wink and a smile for John.
