This week’s Bump Report features a pretty special exclusive. There’s no cartoon today because this post will feature something even better than that!
But first, let’s see what babycenter.com has to say about Week 13 of pregnancy.
This is the last week of my first trimester (which is so evident to me – already I can feel my energy lifting and the morning sickness seems to have cleared up entirely – hurray!). Even bigger hurray – my risk of miscarriage is now much lower (not that it will stop me from worrying about it about a kagillion times a day…). More good news (for my husband): Many couples also notice a distinct libido lift around this time. No kidding – now that I’m not vomiting every morning and feeling exhausted from any form of physical activity – I can see how that would improve his odds, can’t you?
But enough about that – we all know what we are really here for – dirt on BB – well, BB has formed fingerprints on their tiny fingertips, their veins and organs are clearly visible through their still-thin skin, and their body is starting to catch up with their head — which makes up just a third of their body size now. If I’m having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries! Where does she keep them all in a body just 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp)?
Hmm well, that’s cute and all, but personally I don’t think that looks anything like BB Kumquat the Lime-Flavored Shrimp.
And I should know, having just seen this picture of them two days ago:

See? Way cuter than that other picture. And look, we even got BB to wave for you guys – not that he or she did any of the other “important” things that the ultrasound technican wanted him / her to do for the Serum Screening test thing. Apparently they really needed BB to swim up to the top of my stomach so they could get more accurate results for their test-a-ma-gig. Ultra Tech Lady told me that this is a lot harder to do than the OBs would have you believe – apparently they hype up this test a lot to make it seem easier than it is. I was in there for an hour, coughing and having my stomach jiggled, trying to coax BB to take a little swim up river, but despite some very cute hand waving and a little jumping around, he / she never conformed to the demand. That’s my BB! Keep ’em on their toes!
It was super fun, despite being really uncomfortable on my bladder – UT Lady was a sweet heart, which really made up for the long, boring wait in the waiting room where the check-in woman made me feel like a moron for not having registered already with the hospital (I’m sorry, my doctor told me to take elevator B to the 4th floor and that’s what I did – just following directions lady). She was like, “When was the last time you were here?” and I was like, “Dudes, I’m 12 weeks pregnant – when would I have squeezed time in to come to the hospital already – sorry this is my first time.” So they gave me the third degree and a cute plastic card which says in huge letters that I need to carry it on me At All Times (even in the grocery store?). But you know, whatever, I can take the heat. And I got my ultrasound, which is all that matters.
So I’m thinking that about wraps up this week’s Bump Report – I’ll catch you guys next week in the Second Trimester of Awesome.
