I was inspired by That Artsy Reading Girl to revisit an old blogging meme from back in the day. Apparently Top 10 Tuesday is still a thing! The theme is books you were reading this time last year for the last ten years.

Jana writes…

“Now, this might be tricky if you don’t use a reading tracker like Goodreads, but the idea is to share what you were reading on August 11th of 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016. If you have no idea, pick a book you loved that you read at any time during each of the last ten years. And if you still have no idea, pick a book you loved that was published during each of the last ten years. Make this topic work for you! “

I ended up going to Goodreads and reading through my read books shelf, looking for August reads or in a pinch just books read each summer. Here are the ten books I came up with…

  1. 2025: The Color of Magic by Terry Prachett is what I was reading this time last year and it was so good and so funny! This was my first Prachett book and I’m definitely planning on exploring more of the Discworld series.
  2. 2024: The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters was a book club pick that I gave four stars to. I have to say the story has really stayed with me since then. I wrote, “Made me cry twelve times but in a good way.” It’s a dark horse.
  3. 2023: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager was another book club pick and it’s one of our collective favorites from over the years. It’s not a genre most of us read often but we all seemed to love it. If you want to tip toe into the world of horror, I highly recommend this book.
  4. 2022: The Bodyguard by Katherine Center was very classic KC at her best. If you love her like I do, you’ll love this book. I heard they were making a movie adaptation and I would definitely watch that!
  5. 2021: Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price was terrific. I love a Pride and Prejudice adaptation and giving it a murder mystery bent was so much fun. I read the second book in the series also and gave both 5 stars.
  6. 2020: Prose and Cons by Amanda Flower was another favorite! I am a big fan of Amanda Flower. She writes a fantastic cozy mystery. This series takes place in a magical bookshop and of course there’s a little romance and honestly it’s perfect.
  7. 2019: Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch was super cute. Here’s some of my review from way back when I read it: “This was a perfect summer read. Wanderlust, mystery, love stories from two generations, lots of delicious food descriptions, and a heartfelt story to make you cry and keep flipping pages past your bedtime.”
  8. 2018: From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon was another great YA romance. I read two of her books and loved both.
  9. 2017: Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas it’s funny because I seem to rate her books really high when I finish them but then I think back on them later and feel kind of meh. I gave this book 5 stars but I barely remember anything about it. I gave A Court of Thorns and Roses 4.5 stars but if I described it today I’d say it took a looooong time to get going but I enjoyed the last quarter of the book a lot.
  10. 2016: Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell was a short story about Star Wars fans waiting outside in line for the release of a new movie. I love pretty much anything Rowell writes and I was despondent that this was only a short story because I could have read a full novel about these characters.

I feel like this is a pretty good representation of my reading life, to be honest. Right now I’m reading several books across several genres, so really nothing has changed. A sample of the list: A murder mystery in a Florida seniors condo but it’s also a YA romcom. An alien abduction romance (again). A Jasper Fforde book about a woman who can travel inside books and honestly the series is so much weirder than just that and brilliant.

Have you read any of these? What were you reading this time last year? Let me know if you are playing along in the comments.
