It feels like it’s been forever since I just blogged about my life but then I think, “well, self, what would you like to blog about?” and I come up with a big blank. Most of my days have been focused on pictures lately, thanks to my 365 challenge which I’ve also started posting here. If a picture is worth a thousand words, well then I’ve been a writing fiend this month with 12,000 words chronicles in images of my days.
When I’m not snapping pictures these days I’m trying to trick MM into using the potty, imaginary house hunting, figuring out all the angles to our new cash only budget (which we haven’t officially started yet, right now we’re practicing with grocery money), imaginary house hunting, cleaning up poop when potty training doesn’t really pan out, doing laundry, imaginary house hunting and wishing I were sleeping more – or rather, wishing the baby were sleeping more.
Oh and listening to Battle Studies by John Mayer – my newest addiction that I’ve finally gotten my hands on. For a CD chock full of sad love songs, I’m really enjoying it. Even if I can’t relate now, man I’ve been there. And his music always soothes me – he could sing about clipping his toe nails and I’d probably enjoy it, as long as there are no pictures. Although if anyone has cute feet, it’s probably John.
In hobby land, MM has been very busy honing his artist skills. After what felt like an eternity of him mostly just asking me to draw and color for him, he’s suddenly in love with drawing and coloring and blowing through our small stash of paper like there’s no tomorrow. Part of me is thinking, “Man, we’re almost out of colored paper now,” and part of me is more like:
::Meep:: My little baby is getting so big – he’s so talented – when did he learn to draw so well? It really is amazing he seems to teach himself everything that he excels that. I can really take no credit for any of these fabulous sketches, he did it all on his own. If it’s not obvious to you, these are mostly drawings of Micky Mouse and the other “Clubhouse” characters.
Playhouse Disney is another new obsession for him which I’m not minding so much. I’ve become a bit of a Disney fan lately, too, watching Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place a little more often than I really care to admit to but I can’t help it – the shows are hilarious and easy to digest in between temper tantrums and crying babies.
I’m taking a break from my usual stash of young adult novels right now to read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It’s a pretty great book actually, if you haven’t read it yet (I know I’m way behind on the times with this one) you really should. I love historical fiction and this is a good one.
One of the reasons we are doing a cash only budget is because we’re trying to save money to buy a house. We have a tendency to spend too much (we really like stuff) and we’ve noticed that with cash we are a bit more stingy and it’s easier to cut ourselves off. Neither of us really likes apartment living but we hadn’t been doing much about it. Even if this doesn’t speed up the process much, we’ll at least feel like we’re in control of the situation instead of just riding the roller coaster and waiting, waiting, waiting…
You know I love to imaginary house hunt and yesterday I stumbled across a listing that I can’t get out of my head. The price is so fantastic that I am sure there’s something wrong with the house but from the pictures… ::sniff:: I wants it. Fenced in back yard, big deck, spacious looking kitchen, attached garage. Cheap. I like cheap, but then again you get what you pay for… But then again again if you can’t afford it, does it matter?
Anyway, that’s probably all the new stuffs that I’ve maybe not written about. It’s pretty much all the hullabaloo floating through my head and that was pretty much my goal here – a little mental cleaning can be good for the soul. I thought I’d let all these little thoughts rattle around here in my blogosphere instead of in my brain. It looks much less intimidating here.

Before we bought our house, imaginary house hunting was one of my favorite activities. If it’s close, I recommend driving by – you’ll probably see that it’s next door to a race track, or infested by rats or something…and then you can get it out of your system.

He is turning into quite the artist. Have you tried the envelope system? It’s a cash only budget where you put your money at the beginning of each month into specific envelopes. I’ve seen one that whenever you get a $5 bill, you stick that into a jar/another envelope then when that stash reaches $50 you deposit into an account, etc.

I loved Snowflower and The Secret Fan a lot. I hope to get hold of Shanghai Girls too soon.
I hope you get where you want to be with the househunting. We bought many years ago now and it was the best thing we ever did.

I loved this post! Really catches me up. Wanna know something funny? I imaginary house hunt too. ALL. OF. THE. TIME. Not kidding. I desperately want to leave here. As in right now. Even if it is in the 60’s during the day. I miss snow! And people. I really miss people.
Okay. I’m doing ranting. Sorry to hijack this!

Bossy Boy went through that same stage where he hated to color/draw and was an almost war, and then suddenly a light bulb came on and he now loves it.
Have fun house dreaming!
