Today…
Outside my window: it’s a pretty typical August afternoon in the 80’s with thunderstorms predicted whenever they feel like it. It’s pretty much been either hot, raining or hot and raining for a month now. ;O)
This weekend we: made zucchini bread again using a food processor that we picked up at Aldi for, I kid you not, $10.99. Eleven dollars and it works awesome. I’m still in disbelief. I may never buy shredded cheese again guys. Seriously. Oh and the zucchini bread is delicious. I never thought I’d hear myself say that, having never tried it before because it’s called zucchini bread. But it’s good stuff. I used a recipe from my bloggy pal Nancy @ Family Fun in Fort Collins.
We also: took the kids to a little fair at a local church with a moon bounce (MM’s favorite) and games, a garage sale and baked goods. The kids had a good time playing but it was HOT so we didn’t stay long.
Right now I’m reading: Peony in Love by Lisa See – I read one of her other books, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and loved it so I’m looking forward to this book a lot.
On the House Hunting Front: we still haven’t found anyone to take over our lease at the apartment, but the seller agreed to let us continue searching for another month and we pushed back our closing date to October. We decided to lower the price of the rent and take $50 off (we’re hoping to just write a lump sum check to the apartment manager for the money we’re discounting). Hopefully the price drop gets some attention.
Some other links I think you should click:
- I’m thinking of making Ree’s raspberry cream pie recipe for my next bunco meetup – it looks relatively simple and yet seductively delicious – plus chocolate pie crust made from oreos pretty much cannot go wrong, am I right? I’m thinking I can use my handy new food processor to chop up those yummy cookie crumbs.
- I may have mentioned how utterly infatuated I am with Eating for Beginners by Melanie Rehak? Well she is having a little Q&A at Goodreads now through August 15th. Definitely worth checking out!
- I am loving this little hack from Ohdeedoh for re-purposing old Duplo blocks to help your kids with reading skills. So clever!
- Want to throw your little madhatter a Birthday Party in Wonderland? Love this post from Let’s Explore!
- I’m loving this DIY Play Kitchen from Frugal Family Fun Blog.
- I think everyone on the internet has seen this – Mila’s Daydreams – but if by chance you haven’t yet seen this adorable photoblog where Mila’s photographer mommy tries to imagine what her daughter is dreaming about and then photographing it… well you really need to go check it out right away because it’s awesome!
One last thing I want to tell you about before I go:the kids and I watched Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. I had heard a few less than fantastic reviews but still, the kid in me had to check it out. No, it’s definitely not as good as the original (or the original original) but MM in his completely non biased opinion said it was his favorite movie that he ever watched today.

Glad you like the zucchini bread, it’s a family favorite. I was talking to my mom the other day and mentioned I made it, and she was all “I made it too!” So good.
I hope things work out with your lease, I don’t supposed you could buy the house and keep the lease until it runs out… The landlord won’t let you break it early either? That’s a bummer. What a pita.
