Baby Blueberry is now roughly 13 1/2 inches long and weights about a pound and a half which is about the same weight as an average rutabaga, according to babycenter.com. She’s beginning to develop a little baby fat and soon her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she’ll start to look more like a newborn. She’s also growing more hair — and if I could see it, I’d be able to tell the color and texture.

So with the whole potential move looming, we’ve been trying to figure out what will happen with our health insurance if we move out of state. We have a private health insurance that we got when Dan was with his last job, because the company was too small to be able to offer him a group insurance (there was no group to speak of). Instead they reimbursed him for about 40% of what we paid monthly and that was that. This was good because it meant not losing our current healthcare but now we find out it’s not so good because the HIPAA act which would ensure that my pregnancy not be considered a “pre-existing condition” when we switch, doesn’t apply to us – it only covers people going from one group health insurance to another. Figures, right?

I know that the private health insurance we have (Blue Cross Blue Shield) in the state where Dream Company is located said we were pretty much SOL and recommended that I apply for that state’s government health insurance – you know, crap. I can say this with a fair amount of certainty because I had government health insurance with my first pregnancy after getting laid off half way through my pregnancy and only having work through temp agencies (Dan and I were not planning for this birth and had not married yet, long story short). Yes, I got free health care – but in my opinion, I also got what I paid for. What really annoys me – is that we paid for an expensive health insurance so that we’d reap the benefits when we had BB. And now basically we get nothing in particular out of it – if we move out of state, our current health insurance won’t cover us and we’ll have to get something else. Now, I have no idea what the health insurance companies that Dream Company uses will tell us – maybe one of them will cover us no problem – I haven’t called around outside of BCBS because we don’t actually have a job yet. Now there’s also New Other Job on the table and the possibility that we might not get either job – it’s really too soon to look into it much more.

So, I mean, in part, I have my answer. I just don’t like it very much. Still, it’s a bit of weight of my shoulders, knowing how it is and where things stand, for the most part. And you know as for the pregnancy, things are still pretty much the same – just wondering how much longer I’ll be here – if I’ll be keeping my doctor, who I love and the health insurance that I love – or moving to another state and figuring something else out. We’ll see.
