Fall 2009 Wishlist

Last year I made a list of 10 things I wanted to do that Fall and I actually did quite a few of them! So in the spirit of repetition here are 10 things I want to do this autumn season…

  1. Apple picking – we had a lot of fun picking apples this year and I found a great orchard nearby that I want to check out. It looks like mid-September will be a good time to go and find some good pickings.
  2. Turtle hunting – While on vacation in 2007 and 2008 we stumbled across turtle statues and had MM pose with them. I’m really hoping we can randomly find one this year so we can make it a family tradition and of course we’ll want pictures of MM and BB with said turtle.
  3. Pumpkin patching – just like apple picking, this one seems like an obvious Must Do. I think said orchard might have a pumpkin patch, too. If not – I know there are others in the area that will.
  4. Take a day trip – there is so much of Wisconsin that we’ve yet to see – I want to take at least one trip this fall. I’m cheating a bit because I’m planning a trip for this weekend as we speak, but if that doesn’t happen for any reason, I do want to take a trip before the snow comes – and by all means, I’d gladly take more than one!
  5. Trick or Treat – I’m not sure what we’ll do for Halloween this year but we already have costumes for the kids (I know I plan things obsessively early) so we’ll want to take them out for some Trick or Treating of some kind for sure.
  6. Bake a Pie – we had a lot of fun baking pies last fall, we’ll definitely want to make one this year, too – at least for Thanksgiving.
  7. Drink Something Warm & Tasty – apple cider, hot chocolate, delicious chai teas. When the weather gets chilly, I intend to indulge in some warm beverages for sure!
  8. Our First Thanksgiving! – We won’t be seeing family for Turkey Day this year but that means it’s also our first chance to do a Thanksgiving Meal ourselves! I’m really looking forward to seeing what my Culinary Hubby whips up and of course I have a few things (namely dessert) that I’d like to try myself.
  9. Learn about local native history – We’re a ways away from Pilgrim settlements but I know there are a lot of local Native American tribes in Wisconsin and this seems like a good time to learn more about them. Being married to a Wampanoag and having puritan roots myself, these things just naturally fascinate me. Because I’m a dork.
  10. Read Mayflower – finally. Seriously – it needs to be finished this year.

What would you like to do this fall?

I love this post. I want to do all those things too, but in my area. I am intrigued by Mayflower as I have just read a YA book about the Mayflower.
