Generic Blog Fodder: October 4th

This blogging themed meme came my way via Jen @ Our Daily Big Top who found it at Life In The Carpool Lane.

  1. Where are you blogging right now? our living room where my desk and loverly iMac reside
  2. How many unpublished posts do you have in your ‘draft’ box? none actually, usually my posts get published if they are worth it and deleted if they are not. I do schedule posts quite frequently – I’ve got one such post scheduled for tomorrow.
  3. Whose blog inspired you to start your own? I think it all started with Dooce for me. I read an article about her in a magazine somewhere and it was the first time I considered blogging (or journaling) to a wider audience than just a few livejournal friends. I didn’t actually realize there was a mommy blogging community until then, so I’m supremely glad I read that article!
  4. When do you usually publish your posts? These days I typically blog in the morning while MM watches Sesame Street or Dinosaur Train, or in the late afternoon when he’s pretending to nap.
  5. In your guesstimation, how many blogs do you read? More than I could count on several pairs of hands. I could go to my google reader right now though and get you a pretty accurate estimation: I have 119 RSS subscriptions, most of which are blogs, so I’d venture to say a little over 100 is a pretty fair guess.
  6. How long have you been blogging for? I had been livejournaling (a friends only journal) since the late 90’s and started this blog on March 13, 2008. I basically abandoned my livejournal in December of 2008 but it had been a long time coming once I got really into my little blog here. Sometimes I miss the old LJ days though – like my mood themes. I loved my mood themes.
  7. Why did you start blogging? Curiosity? Wanting to write something of quality and put my journalism skills from college to better use. (And baby, look at me now!)
  8. Why do you keep blogging? Definitely the community – also I like to “hear myself talk” or rather “read the stuff I write.” I’m my own biggest fan and critic but I do love to write even when it’s nonsense and memeish.
  9. If you could only recommend one blog to a friend, which one would it be? Simple Mom – I’ll say it again and again and again… she’s awesome.
  10. If the internet was “turned off” for one month, what do you do with all the time you used to spend blogging? Truthfully, probably reading. I’d also probably be depressed for awhile. Hopefully I’d do fun or productive things like cooking or cleaning or leaving the house once or twice, but I doubt it. Mostly, I’d just miss you guys!

The last one really “spoke” to me. I went nuts when I wasn’t blogging but @ the same time I really enjoyed the down time.

I would be very sad if you didn’t blog. It about drove me nuts waiting for you to come back after BB’s birth.

I’d go crazy and miss you too! I enjoy reading my old stuff as well. I stayed up way to late last night reading my posts from Jan-Feb ’09. I was actually mildly entertained. 🙂
