So my husband and I were talking about operating systems last night. I read an article on Lifehacker that the most popular operating system among Lifehacker readers is Windows 7, followed somewhat closely by Mac OS X. My husband argued that Lifehacker readers is a small biased pool that will not represent the majority of computer users. His guess is that most people will use Windows XP. It just got me curious…
What operating system do you use?
My answer: In our household I am running an iMac on OS X and my husband is a hardcore Linux user (I believe he’s running Ubuntu right now but I could be wrong, it seems to change frequently).

Um, windows? I know that hubby just upgraded his to win 7 but he’s keeping mine & the kids’ @ whatever we’re running for right now. I just care that I can get online & have fun. Period.

We are on Vista as well (sigh!) it’s not too bad for minimal functionality like web surfing, photo loading, and that kind of thing. I’m not sure if or when we will upgrade to 7. I’d love to have a Mac in my near future as well, but yeah that’s like way down there on the priority list.

I would agree with your hubby that Lifehacker is a small biased pool, especially since Win7 was only released a few weeks ago.
I am running XP at the moment but am planning to upgrade to Win7, probably in the next few days. My husband is running Win7 and we needed to leave one of the computers on XP in order to scan/fax, but the printer now supports Win7 and he hasn’t found anything else that isn’t working. The only other thing we’re not sure about is the Webcam but we can use it with either of the laptops, which are still on XP (one of which is my work laptop so will most likely stay XP). So the only thing holding me back right now is finding the time to upgrade.

I’m on Windows Vista (boo!!). Until I get a Mac (in the very distant future) I’ll have to settle for what I can get.

I use XP, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
