Letters to Dan, While Missing Him: Volume 4 (Super Special Anniversary Edition)

Last week my husband went out of town for a whole week ::sobs in hanky:: To keep him in the loop on all of the crazy, fascinating things we did while he was gone, I sent him nightly emails chronicling our days.

Thursday was also our anniversary, which to be honest, was pretty sucky. Anyway, here’s my email from last Thursday, on our 4 year anniversary:

TO: HUBBY

FROM: WIFELY

SUBJECT: TONIGHT ON OUR ANNIVERSARY, MISSING YOU

Happy Anniversary, sweetie.

It was a long day of missing you. I tried to be upbeat and keep busy and not feel sorry for myself, but it’s tough. I think today more than ever I just wanted you here, home with me. It didn’t help that [BB’s] sleeping in late streak ended today and she was up at 6:30 am. We dragged ourselves out of bed and started our morning way too early for my taste.

More zucchini bread and grapes and coffee were consumed. [BB] spent a lot of the morning playing footsie with me, silly girl. After breakfast, [MM] was dying to color so I had the idea to let him try making his own picture book with some folded printer paper. He seemed to like the idea but didn’t really grasp the full concept but he still thought it was fun.

I decided to try letting [BB] color for awhile, too. She thought it was awesome! She colored for several minutes before she got curious enough to try eating the crayons. When I took the crayon away from her, she immediately started crying. She’s learned how to throw full fledged, honest to god temper tantrums when she isn’t getting her way. Smart girl.

For lunch, [BB] and I had leftover chicken sticks and sweet potato fries and [BB] had string cheese also [side note: MM had peanut butter and jelly because he turned his nose up at our lunch]. I am really, really unimpressed with the brand [of string cheese] we picked up at Target this week – unfortunately [MM] doesn’t seem to like it either so it’s kind of up to [BB] to eat it at this point.

At naptime, [MM] wanted to read me Mudge Wants To Play, our latest library book. He’s pretty much memorized all the pages now and loves to read it.

For dinner I made penne pasta with alfredo sauce and broccoli. [MM] and I splurged and had chocolate milk together and he was nice enough to not complain about the broccoli, not that he ate any.

After dinner he did some more mazes, continuing to be completely unfazed by any of them. So far he’s only messed up on one maze and he quickly figured it out and fixed it. Such a smart, smart kid.

Anyway, that’s about it. After mazes and a lot of “Mom I’m bored” we finally got to talk to you on the computer and well, you know everything after that. I’ve been sitting around watching Grey’s Anatomy reruns and may watch Project Runway, too. Fun, fun stuff. Not really my idea of the perfect anniversary night but it will do. I miss you. Talk to you tomorrow.

Love,
Wifely
