I’ve noticed over the last couple years that despite being an avid reader, I have missed a lot of the classics. Growing up, I got distracted by the rows and rows of Babysitters Club books and somehow missed out on the “must read” books that you see on all the lists : Jane Austen’s books, Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie, Little Women, To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Animal Farm. Never read any of them growing up. How is this possible when I was reading so much?
Since then I’ve tried to make up for lost time. Gone With the Wind is now one of my all-time favorite books, along with Pride and Prejudice. And I’m currently reading Anne of Green Gables. And pretty soon I’m going to have nearly unlimited access to a world of classic literature because the World’s Greatest Husband decided to buy me something we’ve been toying with the idea of getting for a while now – a KINDLE. I know, right? Best Early Birthday / Christmas Present Ever.
This was a pretty big purchase for us and I plan to be pretty stingy for awhile with the books I purchase for it so I have full intentions of making great use of their amazing selection of free classics. But good golly, miss molly there are a lot of them! And you know how some classic books are classic because they are amazing and life changing and everybody should read them, and then other classic books are, well, over-rated possibly? I want to read the MUST READS – the Gone With the Winds and the Pride and Prejudices, and hopefully avoid the Scarlett Letters as much as possible, you know?
So my Aloha Friday question this week is:
What classic book do you think everyone should read?
Which of the Amazon Classics do you think I need to download immediately?

I may have not read the book, but I really did love the movie so much, and that’s “Little Women”. Also, another classic that I truly loved, and I read half the book, but then saw the movie was “Jane Eyre”. What a great story. Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you enjoyed your time there. I also have a new meme, “Monday’s Music Moves Me” hope you stop by and check it out and maybe even play along. It’s tons of fun! Have a great weekend. Already following you.

I can’t believe that you didn’t read Pride & Prejudice/ To Kill a Mockingbird/Lord of the Flies & others in school. What are they teaching you young whipper snappers? ha,ha Oh & read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. All of them. Their great fun.
I say start w/ Jane Austen. In particular Pride & Prejudice. It always makes me laugh!

I definitely get your excitement about books. I swear I want my own personal library! No kids, just mine. 🙂
Right now I have so much to catch up on that I feel left out. However I need to finish our Bible study books first.
I want to finish the Jodi Picoult and Jane Austen’s ….but so many things cut into my reading time.
I read while rolling in like a turtle at school pick up line.
From the amazon classics. Get the scarlet letter! I just bought that from the library for 25 cents! Whooo
