just journaling : october 28th

I have been trying on different blog styles lately but inevitably come back to this one. I am getting rather picky about certain aspects of my blog’s style and this one seems to meet the most of my strict demands. But you know how fickle I am when it comes to these things and part of me really wants something new because I’m ridiculous and get bored easily. This is the most boring thing you’ve ever read, I know…

That Old Cape Magic by Richard RussoMy book club last night discussed That Old Cape Magic by Richard Russo and I was thrilled to find that pretty much everybody hated or disliked the book as much as I did. Most of them were good little book club members and finished the book (unlike me and my 60 pages in or so) and we actually found ourselves with quite a bit to talk about. I think the books that nobody likes tend to equal a lot of discussion as sometimes there are only so many ways to say, “Yes, I liked it, too.”

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry We’re reading The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry next which looks so very good but I’m trying to wait a bit before starting it since we won’t be meeting to discuss it until December 1st. This was my second time participating in the book club and I like it a lot – I even find I’m making a few new friends which is always nice. Little by little Wisconsin is beginning to feel like home as I meet new people and settle in.

It should feel an awful lot more like home come April when we are going to close on the house finally (knock on wood). We’ve jumped over hurdle after hurdle and were having no luck whatsoever finding a subletter and I was just so tired of the whole thing and then winter was approaching when my Realtor suggested the idea of pushing the closing date until spring, forgetting about the subletter entirely. Shockingly the seller actually said okay! So unless their financial situation should change drastically, it looks like that is what we are going to do.

It’s been a long week of errands and driving and yucky cold windy weather and whiny children who don’t like napping and soooo slowly getting over this quasi-cold like thing. I’m looking forward to the weekend and finally celebrating Halloween. I’m looking forward to trick or treating with friends and taking pictures of the kids in their costumes which we are so proud of – I don’t know if I’ve officially mentioned it here but the kids are going to be Mickey and Minnie Mouse – so cute! We picked up bits and pieces from thrift stores and made a semi-home made costume for the kids. I don’t know if we ended up saving money this way but most of the pieces can be used in their regular wardrobe afterwards so at least we bought mostly functional items.

I promise to come up with something more interesting to write about soon. I haven’t been feeling very interesting lately, truth be told, just sort of doing the day to day, you know? But I thought I’d sit down and write something more journal-like for once just for shits and giggles. Looks like it’s time to go make lunch so I guess I’ll stop procrastinating and hit “publish” …

So glad to hear about the house too, I figured I probably missed a posting. I’m trying to catch up.
I see that you finished Anne of Green Gables…told you so! You have to at least read 2 and 3. Anne of Avonlea #3 is the best…but dang it if I can’t remember if Avonlea is number 3 or not. You have to atleast get to 3 after that it’s not necessary, unless you feel it’s necessary. 😉

I’ve been dying to ask about the house but… Soooooo glad to know that it’s still going on but now it can happen on your terms. Sweet!

You cracked me up about the not interested in blogging thing. Boy, do I ever understand that one! Hubby is gone & I feel like all I’m doing is running from this event to the next. Blogging? What’s that? hee,hee

Okay, so this is really long! I miss my old book club. We had one here for a bit but every one lives so far apart that we’ve all had to skip out until now it’s disbanded. Sigh…

@ Nancy : The whole house thing was just so stressful for awhile with almost never any real new information one way or the other, so I tried to just not blog about it until I actually knew something other than that buying a house stinks! lol But it does look like it’s going to happen so yay! All I want is for someone to give me a key to the house, take my money and leave me alone! haha

I miss so many of my old friends from back in MA, I had already found that perfect group you know? So starting over here has been weird but it is kind of cool to meet new people and realize how big this world is, how many opportunities for friendship really are out there. I’m sure once you’ve been to more of the library meetings you’ll find a couple of people you really connect with. That’s what its all about in my mind.

My old book club in NJ had the best meetings when we all hated a book, and we had a couple of those. Meetings where some love the book and some hate it are fun too. My library book club is fun, but it’s a big group and I don’t feel like I really know anyone, you know? I wish I had something like my old one. Oh well.

Oh and great news on the house! You haven’t mentioned it so I thought maybe it fell through. I’m sure you can’t wait and then next 6 months will feel like forever.
