The Spring Reading Thing @ Callapidder Days is one of my favorite ways to ring in the warming weather.
This Spring we’ve got a lot on our plate. My little boy is turning five, we’re buying our first house and… really, do I need more than that to say I’ll be busy?
I hope to spend this Spring unpacking, playing the with the kids in our new back yard and find new cozy reading nooks in our first house! To keep my reading on track, per usual I’m making a list of the books I hope to read this Spring. Wanna see?
Well first and foremost, here are the three books my book club will be reading this Spring:
- The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
- The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman
- The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeanette Walls
- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
I also plan to read at least some of the following:
- The Help by Katheryn Stockett
- Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster
- Anne of Windy Poplars (kindle edition) by L.M. Montgomery
- Much Ado About Anne (kindle edition) by Heather Vogel Frederick
I’ll also be reading and reviewing Heads You Lose by Lisa Lutz which comes out April 5th!! You might know Lutz’s hysterical Spellman Files series – one of my favorite mystery series ever. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on this book and will probably have to push a few things aside to devote my attention to it. Because we are moving this Spring, I’m planning to not request many review books for a couple of months, but this one I couldn’t resist.
For my classics challenge, in addition to Anne of Windy Poplars, I also want to read two other classics, of which I am considering:
- Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
- Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw
- Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
But it seems like when it comes to the classics, I tend to sift through several choices and go with whichever grabs me so really my goal is to read at least three classics this spring.
And of course, you know I love to change my mind bunches when it comes to reading, depending on my whims and any new hot books that might cross my eye. So fair warning, that I might be changing this list between now and June 20th when the challenge ends – so …
Specific titles aside, my goal this Spring is: to read my four book club selections, three classics, Heads You Lose and and at least two other books, making ten in total.
What will you be reading this Spring?
-updates-
May 12, 2011 – As of today I have finished five books out of the ten I hope to read this spring. I did not finish Anne of Windy Poplars and do not think I’ll read the May book club pick, The Glass Castle but I have plenty of books on my nightstand both mental and physical and I’m still hoping to finish the challenge before summer starts, though it will be no easy feat I’m sure!
Wonderful list! You will LOVE The Help and I think I loved The Glass Castle even more than that! I’m a new follower of your blog, coming to you from Spring Reading Thing!

Great list, Jen! I loved The Help. And I’ve looked at The Imperfectionists at Amazon several times…just haven’t picked it up yet. It does sound like you’ll be busy this spring — enjoy all your planned adventures, and your spring reading!

The Help is one of the best books I’ve read in years. Rich, deeply written characters. Beautiful story.

I want to read The Help too. I have not made time for it. I bought my Mom the audio version for Christmas and I want to borrow it to listen to in the car when she is done. I don’t ususally like audio books but I checked this one out from the library and the first two discs were not that bad. I love L. M. Montgomery. I have read most of her books. 🙂

My list will go up Sunday, I always tweak it up until the last minute. I’m curious what you (and your book club) think of Oscar Wao, people seem to love it or hate it. And Heads You Lose is hysterical, you’re going to love it. I need to work some classics into my list too. Hm…
