a nature walk.

we're walking on sunshine

In which Dan is forced to sigh and grumble a bit while waiting for his wife to finish taking artsy fartsy pictures and catch up.

ohhh and don't it feel good!

I cannot get over these beautiful sun-streaked pictures. I’m sure it’s been done a million times, but it was like discovering a rainbow for the first time… Or something… I don’t know, shut up.

spring is still slowly budding in Wisconsin

I’ve been seeing all these beautiful flower pictures on 365 – apparently almost everywhere else in the world is experiencing gorgeous floral decadence, while we’re still impatiently staring at empty tree branches, waiting for something pretty to pop out… like watching water boil. I swear, the second I walked away a flower probably burst onto scene just to spite me.

I shall call him a sneaky pidgeon

There were lots of birds on the walk, chirping away and coming just close enough to make me whip my camera out before diving just out of view. This bird was all about taunting me while it flitted from branch to branch, forcing me to refocus. This was my best shot and I had to edit it to make it look intentionally spiffy. Unfortunately, sometimes a beautiful Nikon D40 is only as good as the amateur using it.

momma gets artsy

I did really like this picture – posted it as my 365 shot and everything. I’d like to tell you I was aiming for all that beautiful texture, but in truth I was just standing there muttering “focus you stupid camera!”

they met at sunset to discuss top secret sparrow intel

Then I saw more birds. Clearly meeting up to discuss future plans of making me mumble more expletives.

all roads end here

All roads of course end here. This is the house we are *knock on wood* buying… in the process of buying… stalking on a daily basis just to make sure that it hasn’t blown away in the wind since our last walk there. We drive past it on our way home to the apartment every night, not so secretly wishing we could just turn into the driveway, turn the car off and go inside. One more week?

That whole notion still seems surreal to me – a part of me has told myself we might never get this house – that it might always be a sweet dream. But my checking account begs to differ. And the mountain of paperwork. And my calendar that has CLOSING DATE written in capital letters on April 8th. Today the FHA is inspecting the house again to hopefully give us the big thumbs up – but there is a very real, possible chance they might not – in which case we’ll be scrambling to meet that closing date before our seller’s bank forecloses. Seriously.

So please send any and all home inspection passing vibes my way and if you hear screams of joy emanating from the distance later today, you’ll know it was just me letting you know that those vibes worked and that beautiful house is ours.

@ Jean : Shooting in auto I still get better results quality-wise with the Nikon than my Canon. It blows my mind now to think that I thought the Canon took good pictures when I bought it because they look terrible to me now compared to the Nikon. But sometimes lately the Nikon just seems to have something up it’s butt when it comes to focusing and it’s clearly my fault but it still bugs me.

Im the same way with the focus on my camera. Even auto focus doesn’t really focus on what it’s supposed to. I still need lots of practice. (Sssh don’t tell anyone… but sometimes I grab my old one just for simplicity sake)
Im so rooting for you and the FHA. I wish I had some kind of inside scoop for you since I have some sort of clout with them but yeah..no.

Haha I love your commentary. And if it makes you feel any better, your trees have more buds on them than the ones in my neighborhood. Good luck with the inspection!
