I was watching this vlog at Ohdeedoh from their 20/20 Home Cure series about finding photographs that inspire you that can help you decide where you want to go design-wise in your home. I’ve read in several places that the more pictures you look at, the more you’ll get a feel for your style and what you like.
I’ve been pinning pics of home decor that I like for awhile now on Pinterest and I just went through and found the ones that are speaking to me the most right now. I thought I’d share them with you here so we can all see what Jen’s Dream Home looks like. A lot of these, with some time and money could be turned into a reality in our current home – or at the very least the core ideas behind them could be implemented.
Anyway, here’s the Grand Tour, starting with our “dream” entry way…
The pretty flowers, the white picket fence, the stepping stones. I want it all. In some ways, it’s the exterior of our home that I most want to spruce up but I unfortunately have zero experience making this kind of dream a reality. For now I look at pictures, but one day soon I’m going to start getting my hands dirty and trying to make this one come true.
Moving indoors, our dream bedroom looks like this right now…
The first noticeable thing here (for me) is the books. I want books in every corner of our house, but not in the haphazard, “You sure do have a lot of books lying around with no home” kind of way that we’re rocking right now. I want them to have homes, big and small, in each room. I would also really love a headboard some day.
Dan has grand plans to build us a bed frame and headboard with built in shelving throughout and I am gleefully looking forward to those days ahead!
Moving on to the most important room in the house, my dream kitchen….
I’ve been really into white cabinets and brick back splashes lately. I’m also a big fan of all the wide open spaces and tons of counter space. Our kitchen has pretty decent counter space, but it seems like we could always use more. We’d also really love a gas stove someday.
And the dining room…
I’m not sure that I actually *want* to go this rustic, but the simplicity of this photograph is really speaking to me and the idea that a table doesn’t have to be ornate and intricate and luxurious. And things don’t have to match or come in a set.
A kitchen table is another project Dan has in mind as “things he’d like to build himself at some point” – can I just say marrying a guy that’s into woodworking just rocks. He’s already built a desk, a forward facing bookshelf for the kids and the shelf that our DVD player sits on in the living room.
What I like most about this table: the length and the lack of messy fingerprints and dried milk stains that never seem to disappear.
Ask Dan what I covet the most for our home and he’ll know the answer in a heart beat.
Bookshelves and reading nooks. Please, please, please. I want them everywhere, I’d love them built in. And reading nook – that definition is pretty loose. I describe it as “comfy spot to read.”
This would be nice, too:
This one even seems doable in our bedroom, just based off the size and shape of our room, we could totally do this. You know, given enough money and time.
Our washer and dryer are down in our unfinished basement that looks very much like an old, drafty unfinished basement. I’d love it if it someday looked like this…
The shelving and storage, the colors, the gorgeous new appliances. Yeah, I’ll take it all.
And there you have it. The grand tour of my “dream home” – the way I’d want our home to look if I had all the time and money to make it a reality. What do these pictures say about me? Not sure.
What does your dream home look like?

@ Jean : For the most part, I look at Pinterest in spurts, one or two times a week probably and then spend half an hour there. Mostly just repinning things (so I can remember them later) and then during the week I try to pin things that I find online that I think look interesting. You download a little bookmarklet thing so that when you are on a webpage you want to pin you just press the “pin it” button and asks what picture you want to use, etc. Pretty easy.
I also recommend following lots of people as it gives you a lot more pins to look at.

I really really need to just dive in head first in Pinterest. I admit Im a little intimidated and not sure how to start. Then Im afraid I’ll never leave and my househould will never be the same and school will just be an afterthought. Im sure it wouldn’t be that bad but Im skeered. 😉
