I feel like it’s been Halloween for weeks on end at this point ; the downside (or upside) to Halloween being on a Monday is that we’ve been celebrating all weekend. I have so many pictures of cowboys and kittens that I was starting to forget what my children looked like outside of their costumes!
But even though we’ve been celebrating all weekend with parties and church events and more candy and junk food than my diet needed (for sure!) I couldn’t let Monday go by without some celebration also.
We baked some of those pre-sliced Halloween themed sugar cookies that have been roaming the grocery store for weeks now taunting me. What is it about these cookies? They aren’t that good and yet, they are delicious. To me anyway. Dan always eats one and then says, “Oh yeah, those cookies.” He’s not a fan. But I love them – the fact that they are ridiculously easy to whip up is just icing on the… cookies.
And, you know, the kids liked them, too. They made for a fun after dinner treat to celebrate the holiday one last time…
We got a decent amount of trick or treaters this year, but from what I’ve heard it was nothing like previous years. I was worried the two bags I bought wouldn’t be enough from what I’d been hearing but in truth one bag would have been plenty.
In addition to the candy, I also put in some Halloween themed frisbees and bubbles – and I have to say, I was so impressed by how many kids took a toy and not just candy – some kids ONLY took toys! And we were giving out Hershey Bars, Kit Kats, Reeses Cups… The good stuff, guys! The neighborhood dentists would be proud of these kids.
Halloween last year was beyond frigid and my kids were so cold all night. Little BB was bundled up so tightly that you couldn’t even tell she was dressed up. I debated whether to take the kids trick or treating at all this year, not wanting to deal with that awful cold weather again. Hence the partying it up this weekend indoors. Just in case.
But this year the weather was much nicer for trick or treating, so after daddy (finally) got home from work, we all hit the streets for some good old fashioned trick or treating. Neighbors of course oohed and ahhed over the kids’ cute costumes and by the time we were done, little BB was officially hooked on the whole trick or treating concept. MM was in his glory also, having a great time.
We actually only visited about 7 or 8 houses in all. The kids are so young, they don’t really need the extra candy. Never mind all the leftover candy that didn’t get passed out this year. We’ll be in sugar coma heaven for weeks…

Your kiddos are so cute! Wait until they get a bit older and soon they’ll be running from house to house with bags of candy bigger than they are.

(psst – don’t tell anyone but I love those cookies too. They aren’t very good but they are wonderful! My family doesn’t like them either!)
