Obsessing over: how poorly I’m doing at losing weight. The most I can say for myself is that I’m not currently gaining weight – but all my talk seems to be just that. Talk. I have an exercise bike sitting in my living room that mostly just gets looked at ; I have sweets in the house that I am incapable of ignoring – and I keep saying I’m going to check in with you guys on Fridays and then I don’t. What’s my problem? Not sure.
Feeling: a little fatigued still from the weekend. Saturday night my meetup group did a community service project for a local animal shelter, working their concession stand at a hockey game. We spent 6 hours or so feeding hungry hockey fans hot dogs, cheeseburgers, bratwurst and nachos.
It was my first experience with food service and I was blown away by a) the waste – so much food gets thrown away if it’s not in perfect condition b) the hard work these people do! It might not seem like much, but our booth has no cash registers and only 2 calculators for 4 or 5 people – we don’t write anything down. So when you order 2 hot dogs, 1 cheeseburger, an order of nachos, 2 large drinks and 1 small. Holy twinkies, guys, it kind of blew my mind. I had to literally take their order, figure out the money – and then ask them what their order was again so I could get their food sometimes. I have mad respect for the people that do this every day and don’t look like middle school drop outs like yours truly probably did a few times. c) Man, my feet hurt – standing on hard concrete for 6 hours sucks, especially when you are still recovering from a knee injury. Ouchie.
Working on: planning MM’s 6th birthday party! He wants a video game themed party, which I’m thinking I’ll simplify with a Mario theme, but honestly it will come down to whatever is simple and inexpensive. We’re going to keep it simple with just pizza or maybe burgers and brats – potato chips, some fruit and cake and ice cream. The kids will play some video games, probably Mario Party if we can find it at the video rental place. And I have a pretty exciting present planned that actually ties in with this perfectly. I love when that happens!
Thinking about: lots of things – recipes to try, vacations we should take, furniture we want to rearrange / build, and what picture to take today for my 365 project. Yesterday I took a picture of my shirt.
Reading: One For The Money by Janet Evanovich with my book club so we can all go see the new movie together! I have been reading this books for several years now and wasn’t sure how re-reading would go – would I like it less? Would I simply not be able to get into it, knowing all the plot points? I needn’t have worried, I’m kind of maybe loving it even more and it’s been long enough that the details of the plot are hazy anyway so it’s still interesting and terrifically funny.
Anticipating: that vacation I mentioned… a little weekend getaway to a place where you can eat, sleep and go on water slides in the same building… Set to happen near a certain boy’s 6th birthday… I wish we could leave tonight. :OP
Listening to: the kids watching Cat in the Hat in the next room.
Drinking: just finished a cup of Ghirardelli hot cocoa – good stuff. I need to buy more soon. Or not – you know depending on whether we’re talking with Diet Brain or Happy Brain.
Wishing: my laundry could do itself? Playing facebook games earned me money? I could burn calories pinning on Pinterest? Speaking of which…

When you find the laundry fairy…let me know.
And, yay for a get away.
