Obsessing over: actually whipping my diet into shape! Last night Dan arrived at his “breaking point” and started mapping out better meals for himself and making exercise plans. He did my cardio and core training with me and then this morning we woke up at 5:30am and did strength training, too. He was crazy impressed with how well I’m doing with my challenge and found the workouts all very challenging. How’s that for affirmation that I’m doing pretty well? But now I feel like I really need to step up my game and try to eat better also. Always room for improvement!
Feeling: pretty proud of myself for getting in a workout so early in the morning and right after doing cardio last night! I’m capable of more than I thought apparently. Tomorrow I’m going to try doing strength training in the morning and cardio in the afternoon I think.
Working on: planning MM’s birthday party. I had a revelation yesterday while browsing Target’s birthday party aisle that DUH I should throw him a Star Wars themed party. It is actually kind of perfect and he’s very excited about it. Good thing I haven’t sent out the invites yet as I’m going to need to redo them now (we were going to do a Mario theme for no obvious reason). I’m still planning to have the kids play some video games at the party which may or may not be Star Wars related at all because I feel no need to dig the theme into the ground. It’ll just be easier I think now to get decorations and stuff and he’ll be more into it.
Thinking about: MM’s class is celebrating Friendship Day / Valentine’s Day tomorrow and we need to finish filling out his valentines this afternoon. I meant to have him finish yesterday but totally forgot. To be fair, I wasn’t even home from like 9:30am-5pm. Yup, that’s cause I actually went shopping by myself, had lunch and then went to make blankets with my community service group for Project Linus. I have not spent that much time away from the kids, basically ever. Though looking at the hours, it’s sort of the equivalent of any day for a working mom.
I had to replace my pretty B.O.C. clogs because both soles split from end to end (seriously) which I was very unhappy about because um, they aren’t even a year old. I’m not sure they are even 6 months old. And I read some reviews that said they had the same thing happen which to me is really unacceptable. I did some researching and then went back to the shoe store and found a pair of Naturalizer shoes that were soooo comfortable and on sale for like 40% off and decdiced to go for them. Good reviews, comfortable and cheap = good enough for me. I might save up for a pair of Danskos as I hear they are all the rage, but I’m pretty happy with these for now though I’m still warming up to the color. I would have preferred these I think but they weren’t in stock.
Reading: These Is My Words by Nancy Turner for book club and absolutely adoring it! I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not originally going in, it’s one of those books with a lot of dialect and the first several chapters read like The Oregon Trail with a lot of sad things and I definitely cried and I’m guessing I might cry again but now there is a love story to keep me occupied and ohhh it’s good. Like Gone With the Wind good.
Anticipating: catching up with the DVR this afternoon and naptime and maybe even watching some more Downton Abbey. I’ve only watched one episode of season one but I’m hooked and anxious to watch more.
Listening to: the ending music of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which tells me I’m on borrowed time.
Drinking: tea. I know, I know… but it’s cold!! And it’s Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice which means it’s delicious and pretty low calorie – only 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Wishing: that my laundry could wash, dry & fold itself because the basement is even colder and also downstairs and I’m still sore and tired from exercising this morning. First world problems, I know, but still. Can’t I get a sorcerer’s apprentice to do it for me?
Pinning (The I’m Hungry Edition):
the best homemade chocolate chip cookies in the world * garlic and brown sugar chicken (I’m making this tonight) * Love Potion #9 (cute idea for Valentines Day treat) * fresh food gift basket * skinny chocolate crinkle cookies (made these for bunco – tasty but a sticky project from beginning to end – just ask my nonstick cookie sheets) * revolutionary mac and cheese * baked s’mores
