Bump Report: 33 Weeks

Another week has gone by and it’s pretty much status quo on my end – I’m getting bigger and more awkward by the hour but for the most part, not much has changed since the 32nd week began. But you know that baby is just growing and changing all the time, so let’s check in with babycenter.com:

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. She’s rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and her skeleton is hardening. The bones in her skull aren’t fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for her to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don’t entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as her brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

If all goes as planned (i.e. planned c-section), Baby Blueberry will be blessed enough to skip that whole conehead phase. MM had the world’s most ridiculous conehead after a full day of unsuccessful induced labor, robbing him of the joy of the perfectly round head that most cesarean babies get. I guess he just wanted to try a little bit of everything. Again, fingers crossed that things go mostly to plan this time!

We filled out the paperwork for our health insurance and we are technically covered but we don’t actually have like health insurance cards and numbers and stuff yet – I’m hoping they send that soon. I’m still planning to call the clinic I’m hoping to use and get an appointment set up with an OB or at least get an idea of when I should do that – at this point, I really don’t want to wait much longer because ack – I’m 33 weeks pregnant! So just as soon as that last batch of cookies comes out of the oven, I’m planning to call the OB about that bun in the other oven. 😉

– update –

The cookies are done and so is the phone call! The baby was kicking like crazy during the whole call, probably feeling every ounce of her lame mommy’s nerves – have I mentioned I hate talking on the phone? Like I hate it – small talk or business calls, doesn’t matter, I don’t like doing it. But it had to be done and the office receptionist people were VERY friendly and said, ‘Heck yes – let’s make you an appointment!‘ Or you know, some totally professional variation of that. Apparently I’m not the first crazy woman to move to a new state this pregnant because they were just like, “Oh, okay, here’s what we need to do…” Then they took my name and address and all that jazz and I was feeling so proud of being able to say, “I’m 33 weeks pregnant,” with confidence even though that’s only because I called JUST AFTER writing this post so I wouldn’t forget. 😛 I have my first appointment with my new doctor this coming Tuesday afternoon.

So now I’m mildly nervous because I have really no choice but to take my three year old with me and I’m totally at that point in my pregnancy where they’ll probably want to check down under to make sure I’m all dilated at the proper points, etc. (Sorry, I’m trying to keep this as non-gross as possible) and I know MM is gonna be all like, “What’re you doing mommy?” And ohhh yeah it’s not gonna be fun. But that’s okay, I really have no other choice. Also – this doctor is totally a man – I decided not to be picky what with my last minute, “Hey any of you wanna deliver my baby next month?” deal. But yeah – there’s that. I think part of me decided not to be picky because, I mean, a week ago I was pretty sure I didn’t like French Toast and now I do. And suddenly I love lemon meringue pie like there’s no tomorrow even though not long ago it was totally a take it or leave it dessert. Who knows? Maybe I won’t even mind a male doctor – maybe it’ll be awesome. I won’t know unless I try, right?

  1. I’ve only had male OBs, and even the docs that delivered the boys (both were born when someone else was covering for mine, which kinda sucked but what can you do?) were male. So I have nothing to compare to but I didn’t mind having a male OB.

I think I had to bring Alex once or twice when I was pregnant with Zach. At this point they may not check you, it’s still a bit early for that. But even if they do it should be quick so MM may not even realize what’s going on. Give him a book or something!

  2. You poor thing! Taking your 3-year old to an internal exam is definitely not fun.

Hope the appointment goes smoothly and you love your new dr.

  3. I hate talking on the phone too! I could list it as one of the top 5 things I hate (doing) like cleaning, peas, dentist, and speaking in public .
I’ve had more than my fair share the past few weeks of phone talking. I hated having to deal with the insurance companies after my wreck..all of which on the phone. My conference call was great though to speak to the author but I still felt awkward and shy.
Anywho it is coming down to the wire for you! It’s been flying by so fast…at least from my perspective. 🙂

  4. If it helps, the ob’s I like the best were all male. They were just so much more sympathetic & understanding. Bedside manner was better too. The gyn I’m seeing now is a woman & she has an atrocious bedside manner.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s all good & you love him!
