Hi, my name is…

Trish @ Mom Dot had this great to have an Introduce Yourself Day. “If we don’t relay ourselves as a real life person to  our new visitors,” Trish writes, “they may look at us just as another ‘mommy blog’. I  know that I have been guilty of talking to someone online for months and never knowing their first name.”

I think I have been pretty good about this – if you don’t know that my name is Jen, then I’m pretty surprised, but Hello, my name is Jen. Some people call me Jennifer, but rarely Jenny and never, ever Jenn or Jennie. Understand? My son calls me “mommy”; my daughter doesn’t call me anything at all, because she can’t talk yet. My husband, well, he can call me whatever he wants as long as he keeps making me homemade pizza and bringing home the veggie bacon (but not really because I don’t actually like vegetarian bacon).

the monkey, the baby and me

I talk about myself a lot here – you guys might have noticed a few of my likes and dislikes, quirks and personal history but for new readers or skimmers you should know…

  • Dan the ManI am married to a wonderful, handsome engineer who can out-cook me, out-craft me, correct my grammar, fix my computer, inspire me to get in better shape, wrestle with his son, soothe his baby girl and do long division in his head – all at the same time. Yeah it blows my mind, too.
  • my little loviesWe have two great kids who bring us to our knees on an hourly basis. They both have blue eyes that stop people in their tracks, compelling them to ooh and ahh and tell us how lucky we are to have such cute kids (like we didn’t already know). They also have the ability to throw tantrums, the likes of which I’d never seen before becoming a mother. I will have my hands full for a long, long time.
  • We moved our little family of four (although technically we were three and a half at the time) to Wisconsin last summer after the economy threw us all for a loop (along with everyone else we know). Unfortunately “everyone else we know” doesn’t include anybody in Wisconsin so we’ve been trying to put ourselves out there and meet people, make connections and feign having a social life. We both left pretty much our whole families back in our hometown in Massachusetts to move here but we are already pretty smitten with Wisconsin and my husband’s new job so it feels worth it even when we’re missing people like crazy.
  • Our lives didn’t feel interesting enough already so a couple months ago we switched to a pescetarian diet (which means we’re almost vegetarian except we decided to keep eating seafood a couple times a week).
  • We also cloth diaper, use reusable grocery bags, breastfeed our kids, and try our hardest to live a relatively eco-friendly, wallet happy lifestyle. We’re currently taking a big long hard look at our budget before trying a cash only system in the hopes to save more because…
  • I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY want to buy a house sometime before my kids turn eighteen. Or you know, maybe in a year or two if we can get really savvy, spend less and save more.
  • I love Eggplant Parmesan and Land o Lakes raspberry hot chocolate, chai tea, watching Ellen or Grey’s Anatomy, playing silly games on Facebook, listening to John Mayer and making up silly songs to sing to my kids.
  • I love to travel, take pictures (especially of my kids), lose myself in a good book, work out with my Wii Fit Plus, bake chocolate chip cookies, plan imaginary vacations, go imaginary house hunting, and um blog. A lot. Hence the name. I also write at a review blog founded by myself and two friends.
  • Basically I have so many varied interests that I tend to wear myself too thin, then I try to purge my interests in the hopes of accomplishing more – but like a plant that you trim when the blooms and leaves get too crazy, my interests usually grow back larger than before, flourishing in a cluttered array of crazy. Rinse and repeat.

basically I'm awesome

So, did you learn anything new or should you have stopped me awhile ago to say you’ve heard this one before? Either way, if you haven’t taken the time to really introduce yourself – to me or your own blog readers – please do so. Say hi in the comments section below and then consider writing a post of your own and linking up at Mom Dot.

Love this post! I think I knew most of this like Jean M but it was still nice for the refresher. And yes, your kid’s eyes in photos are absolutely stunning. I can just imagine in person. Both of them are so darned cute!

It’s nice to hear more about you! Your husband’s math skills are kind of amazing and now you know you can push all the kids’ math homework help off on him!

You’re not toooooo far from me. I’m in Michigan, about 90 minutes outside Chicago.
