The other day I was reading about rice cookers in a magazine and how they actually do more than just cook rice – apparently you can also make things like oatmeal, soups or fondue in them and a lot of them come with a steaming basket so you can steam some veggies or fish at the same time! I’ve never had a rice cooker and hadn’t considered getting one but I suddenly find myself intrigued by them…
Do you own a rice cooker? Do you like it?
What kitchen appliance would you love to splurge on right now?

I have a pot to cook rice in, and I like how it works. Absolutely do not want another appliance for the counter top, although I miss having a breadmaker – but mine is US voltage/amp and it would not keep proper time overseas. I do not miss having a dishwasher. There’s no such thing as a dishwasher that washes dishes clean, without you washing them first… that’s bugs me so much that I am happiest to just wash them by hand.

Nope, don’t have one. We don’t each much rice around here. I’d love to splurge on a new frig. Ours is ten yrs. old maybe 11 & it needs a rest. I’d love a two door frig but my kitchen is really small.

Well seeing as how we just sprung for a new dishwasher and stove, I’m probably good on appliances. Although, since you’re asking… I would love a bread maker and one of those ricers that mashes potatoes really well. A fridge to go with my other new appliances would be nice but probably over doing it for now. I’m patient though. 🙂

We had one, I think we got it as a gift by someone who swore you had to have one. But neither Jon (who cooks) nor I (who doesn’t) could make decent rice in it where neither of us has a problem using a pot. Some people really love them though.
There aren’t many kitchen gadgets we don’t already have, though a bigger blender would be nice. My sister got us one that’s both a blender and a food processor and while that’s nice, neither thing is really big enough. I can’t make my MIL’s fantastic Thanksgiving stuffing with the food processor, it’s just too small to be practical.

I do have a rice cooker but I had no idea that you could do so much else in it. Oh & mine did come w/ the steamer basket. Silly me.
I am truly loving my food processor although the above thought of having to wash the dishes by hand isn’t too fun either!

We used to. I found it so time consuming to pull out and clean up. I’m not sure why, it’s not much different than using a pot.
I would love a dishwasher! I feel like I’m living in the pioneer times over here handwashing dishes 90 times a day.

No rice cooker…..but Hmmmm I have a bread maker now (love it). What would I splurge on? Oh, for safety reasons I’d love a new stove ….one without the knobs where little ones can reach them. 🙂

My rice cooker is from my college days – it’s small and doesn’t have the fancy bells/whistles but it does the job. I’d love the magic bullet (cheesy but looks so easy to make smoothies).

I do have a rice cooker, and I like for white rice and steaming veggies, but it does a horrible job with brown rice. I would love to splurge on a really nice food processor.
