Today
Outside my window… it’s a fairly typical gorgeous looking summer day but I woke up this morning to thunder and lightning and that scary kind of rain that makes you want to hide under the covers. Also it was 5:30am. So I did hide under the covers for a couple more hours, but sadly did not sleep. Which made for a sleepy Jen this morning who did not much of nothing.
This weekend we spent a lot of time bumming around the house, playing in the backyard which is pretty fun, especially with these two cuties:
They are playing “together” more and more and I love it!
I also took the five year old to Target yesterday to get him some clothes that don’t look like he’s been wearing them for two years now because my son doesn’t really grow for some reason. I figured with kindergarten starting in a couple months that he’ll need new clothes so I’d already gotten him some nice long sleeves and pants, but yesterday I wanted to get him some new duds that he can wear now so I’ll stop being embarrassed to take him out in public. Lucky mommy, Target was having some awesome clearance deals and I was able to get him three shirts, a new pair of sneakers and of course socks and underwear (I am a mom, you know) for a steal of a deal. If you’re in the market for kid clothes, head to Target stat!
I am reading Second Wind by Cami Ostman, yes still. I got almost no reading done this weekend, staying up late to spend time with that husband of mine watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns on Netflix, so yeah… I’m still only about halfway through.
A flew links you should click:
- Have you seen the entire Harry Potter series in comic form by Lucy Knisley? Super fun.
- Love this DIY Paint Chip Birthday Banner at Modern Parents, Messy Kids. Might have to do this for BB’s 2nd birthday.
- The kids and I played “store” today with some random price stickers that MM conned off a salesgirl at H&M (he’s the king of “Can I have a sticker?”) and these printable dollar bills (for more fun designs and less real appearance, I like these at FreeStuff4Kids).
15 minutes into playing store, MM spent all his “money“. That’s what happens when you buy a fancy red sports car, a train, a house and a cell phone in 15 minutes. Game over. I thought about giving him a “credit card” and trying to explain interest rates to him, but then I decided to save that for another day. I think the lesson of “if you spend all your money, you can’t buy anything else” is more important for now.
- I think one of our next “projects” is going to be this fun Potion Lab idea at Frugal Family Fun Blog. Water and food coloring, folks, that’s all you really need.
Two pictures I gotta show you: are from a couple of random photo shoots outside while the kids were playing. In this one MM said “Mommy, take my picture!” so of course I did.
The day before I got this pretty one of BB in which I cannot stop swooning over her socks:

One response to “Daybook: July 11th”
BB is on the cutting edge of fashion. That’s how all the kids wear their socks these days.
