We found this book tag at Romance Novels For the Beach and decided to play along. Basically we are playing “Would you rather?” with all the questions being about books. Simple right? Feel free to play along in the comments or on your own blog!

Would you rather only read trilogies or only read stand-alones?

Jen

I’m not saying that all trilogies are great but I am kind of a sucker for books that come in a series so I guess I’d go the trilogy route but only if people writing memoirs start writing them in trilogy form because I’d seriously miss all the fun celeb memoirs that I read.

Kimmy

I’m a slight fan of books in trilogies. I’m a bit picky in what I read, so if I find something I really like, I want to be able to read a lot of it. Not that there is anything wrong with stories that are more ‘short and sweet’ one-book varieties, but I’ll happily take more if I can get it.

Would you rather only read male or female authors?

Jen

I’m going to go with female authors since 95% of the books I read are probably written by females. Though I’d miss out on Christopher Moore, Trenton Lee Stewart, John Green, Jasper Fforde and a handful of other authors that I adore despite being yucky boys.

If I had to choose I’d probably say male authors, as most of my favorite books were all written by men. Now either category author can convincingly portray a character of the opposite sex.. that’s another test altogether.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?

Jen

Definitely Amazon. I’m all about supporting local business but Barnes & Noble hardly qualifies as local and is often significantly higher priced than Amazon. Also, I buy way more than just books on Amazon so it would be a major lifestyle change to give them up. Can I keep shopping at my local used bookstore also though?

roryKimmy

Amazon all the way. Well – let me rephrase that. I’d rather buy at Amazon as it’s usually a lot cheaper, but there’s something innately satisfying about going into a bookstore, smelling the fresh pages, and feeling the cover under your fingertips as you walk out the door meanwhile your bank account weeps for it’s ailing health.

Would you rather books were made into TV shows or movies?

Jen

I’m going to go with TV shows because it would give the author more room to flesh out their screen versions of the books. Movies of books often feel rushed and bare bones compared to the book.

Kimmy

Is mini-series an option? I always feel that movie adaptions are too rushed and don’t include enough fully explain the depth of the story to anyone who hasn’t read the book. On the other hand a TV show always has filler episodes. and/or other major/minor alterations to fit it to a episode/season schedule.

Would you rather read only 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

Jen

God I wish I had time to read 5 books per week, that would be awesome! I’ll definitely go with that, I assume that you Would You Rather Gods will work out the details on where the extra time and energy will be coming from, right?

cliffhanger-oKimmy

Five pages a day. Just hope that 5th page doesn’t end on a cliffhanger one page from the end of a chapter. If I had the time for five books a week, I wouldn’t be reading books. I’d be trying to write one.

Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?

Jen

I’d love to be a professional author but since I seem to lack discipline and the ability to either not self edit myself to the point of not writing anything or the ability to write well enough that I don’t feel the need to self edit to that extent…. I guess I’ll stick with reviewing for now but I’ll always be writing something either way.

Would you rather be a librarian or a bookseller?

Jen

Do I have to go to school to get a library science degree in this make believe universe? Will you pay for it? I’d love to be a librarian but truthfully, I’d just as soon work at a bookstore and skip the getting a Masters Degree part of this equation.

Kimmy

Bookselling. Then I’ll always have the new ones right at my fingertips.

Would you rather read only your favorite genre, or every other genre but your favorite?

Jen

Who in their right mind would choose every other genre but your favorite? This question is ridiculous. That’s like asking if you’d rather only eat food you like or food you don’t like.

i accept

Kimmy

I think this is where I lie and say romance is my all-time fav, and then spend my time reading all the actually interesting genres.

Would you rather only read ebooks or physical books?

Jen

fa511d9fe75d84621ee207d042c0417fI love physical books but I’d have to go with ebooks if I could only have one based soley on the fact that it would take up less space so my severe book addiction wouldn’t look quite so hoarder-ish. The problem with being a book lover is that your addiction requires lots of bookshelves. Also – my carry on luggage situation would be much more reasonable if all my books were on a kindle. How could I possibly choose just one book to bring with me on vacation? HOW???????????????????

Kimmy

Disclaimer: I’ve never actually tried reading on an e-book, but I’ve tried reading on screens and tablets so many times I should be given an award. Something about the reflective screen and the lack of paper feel underneath my fingertips just ruins it for me. It’s paper or nothing.
