Give Me 5 Monday @ The Movies

Another cute meme my bestie @ Red Knows How stumbled across. It’s Called Give Me 5 Monday and it’s hosted @ Becca’s Buzz. This week’s theme is: movies!

Give Me Five recent movies you’ve rented.

According to ye old Netflix queue, that would be…

  1. Cinderelmo: I’d give this movie 4 stars. MM liked it a lot and despite being the world’s cheesiest movie ever, it wasn’t terribly annoying. And Keri Russell was in it! Love her!
  2. Batman Forever: FIVE STARS easily. We’re smack dab in the middle of an ongoing Batman marathon. So far this has been our favorite Batman Movie, with the newest one, The Dark Knight being the exception, but let’s face it, that was The Joker: The Movie and not really a Batman movie…
  3. Iron Man (we got this from Red Box but I remember we got it recently): I’d also give this 5 stars. I really didn’t think I’d like it at all, but it was so good, honestly one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time and I like a lot of movies, so that’s saying something.
  4. Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: 4 Stars. This movie was not even a little bit what I expected and for about 10 minutes I was seriously ticked off, but man they made it work. I really loved it in the end.
  5. You Don’t Mess With the Zohan: 3.5 stars. In some ways I’d tell you this movie was awful. It was also wonderful and brilliant. It’s mindless comedy at it’s best but it’s also Adam Sandler and HE’S the best! I love the whole point of the movie, the whole idea that nations should be able to get along and coexist, especially in America where that’s supposedly the whole point.

What movies have you rented recently?

@ Jen & Jen : I love Red Box. We like Netflix for being able to keep my son’s videos for ages, but for a quick movie, Red Box seriously can’t be beat.

@ Becca’s Buzz : I can totally agree with that. I was thinking more along the lines of what our country has evolved to be, more so than the original intention, but obviously what you say is true. 🙂

Uh, forgot one more thing. (Sorry I’m monopolizing your comments on this post!)i

When I rented SATC it was the first time I’d used the Red Box. Can we saw ‘AWESOME’??? Totally easy and cheap and so convenient.

Forgot to say, the last movie I rented was “Sex and the City.” I liked the show so I liked the movie–I think that’s kind of the rule–but it’s too bad it was so over-hyped. Like the Simpsons movie, it was just an extra-long episode. Not bad, just impossible to live up to the hype.

Our kids were really into Veggie Tales a few years ago but I guess they got tired of them. Then just recently they decided they love them again. Nearly all our VT were on videotape, and we don’t have a working VCR anymore so I’ve been getting stuff from the library. All the new DVDs have ads for the Pirates movie but I don’t really know anything about it. The kids are both really interested in it (they love quoting from the Silly Songs Countdown: “I think you look like Captain Crunch… You’re making me hungry”) so I’m glad to hear you liked the movie. It’s always nice when we don’t mind watching the things our kids adore and want to watch over and over and over… 🙂

Most recent – Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (I think the official movie title is longer but that’s all I can remember). It was good, not great. Love Red Box!

I like your list! I can’t wait to see the Pirates who don’t do anything. I actually haven’t seen any of the ones you’ve listed here, but I was considering a few of them.

You know, some might argue that our country was not founded on ‘the whole idea that nations could get along and coexist,’ but instead, our founders desired to worship God in their own way without the government telling them how or who. Just an observation about the last line in your post. I like your GM5 list!!
