Bump Report: Week Eleven

pregnancy cartoon

11 Weeks and Counting – cartoon from babygaga.com

Now there’s a cartoon I can fully relate to – while my morning sickness has been remarkably better than my last pregnancy since learning how to work around my nausea a bit (i.e. consume nothing but weak tea and buttered toast until noon) I still seem to find myself staring into the porcelain god devil far more than I like – and thinking about it even when I’m not. Morning sickness can rule your life even when you aren’t holding your hair back and praying.

Anyway, I got to hear BB Kumquat’s heart beat yesterday – you’d think having done this before I’d remember stuff like where they put the little monitor thingy to check – like no, not on your stomach, way down there – like hold on while I invade your personal space – again. OBGYNs are like total anti-personal space you know. I actually really like my doctor and I was super excited when I finally got to hear that little heart beat – like it suddenly became real – I wasn’t just nauseous and grumpy and tired for nothing anymore – there’s a baby in there – an alive baby who wants to be borned in six and a half months or so.

So let’s see what babycenter.com says is important this week, shall we? Oh – it looks like BB Kumquat is now roughly 1 1/2 inches long which is about the size of a fig – coincidentally I had no idea what a fig looked like until like just now – I thought it was just something to put in healthy cereal bars and sing about at Christmas time, but it’s clearly much more important than that since it has something to do with my not-yet-born child now. Here’s how big BB is now for those of us who need a visual reference:

BB’s busy right now kicking and stretching and basically having a little water ballet field day – not that I can feel it – I’m totally just taking their word for it – according to them, I won’t feel these acrobatics for another month or two. Point is, BB is busy – and apparently has the hiccups because their diaphram is forming.

The good news is that according to those geniuses at babycenter.com my nausea should be lifting soon and my appetite and energy will return – which would be, like, stellar. I was telling dh today that I kind of feel like a shell of a woman, always always tired – always either nauseous or working very hard not to be – I really look forward to ye old second trimester so I can start to feel a little bit more normal and hopefully all glowy and pregnant goddess-like.

And I guess that’s all the fun and exciting – much of the same really except now I’ve heard the heart beat so it’s all real – because last week it was just pretend you know.

When I was growing up, I lived next door to a man who had a huge fig tree. Those fruit are so delicious. I have a friend whose grandmother make fig preserves and that is delicious on fresh baked biscuits.

I don’t remember hearing the first heart beat of any of my children via the internal probe. But I do remember that dreadful probe.

You just reminded me I have to schedule that yearly dreadful appointment. I got to start talking myself into it.

@ Jean : Yes but I’m trying hard not to I swear! lol I really would be happy with either but sometimes you can’t help but attach a gender to your thoughts about them – but then again MM was a she until 7 months when we found out he was a he. 🙂

I do feel for you with your morning sickness. I have twin girls and I was constantly sick up until a month before they were born. Men honestly do not realise what we go through. Fingers crossed it clears for you soon.

It always seems the nasea will never end and then it’s gone magically overnight. Then bring on the eat fest!

Are you sending out some girly vibes to BB? 🙂
