Bump Report: Week Twelve

12 Weeks and Counting – cartoon from BabyGaga.com

Better late than never right? Sorry this was several days late in getting posted, but you know combine normal crummy pregnancy feelings with a stomach bug and I’m hoping you understand (you know, all you people who were clicking the refresh button in anticipation, waiting with baited breath for this week’s Bump Report – you guys).

This week, babycenter.com tells me that BB Kumquat has grown to be about 2 inches long, weighs about half an ounce, making them roughly the size of a lime.

This week, BB has been developing some awesome reflexes – soon BB’s fingers will begin to open and close, their toes will curl, their eye muscles will clench, and their mouth will make sucking movements. If I prodded my abdomen, BB would squirm in response, although I won’t be able to feel it. Their face looks unquestionably human: BB’s eyes have moved from the sides to the front of their head, and their ears are right where they should be. In short, little BB Kumquat the Lime is perfect.

I was supposed to have my first ultrasound on Thursday but thanks to this stomach bug I had to miss the appointment and haven’t been able to reschedule it yet. So I have no fun news on that front – all I can really say is that after days of feeling like Death Becomes Her it’s nice to finally almost just feel like a pregnant woman. And I haven’t had morning sickness in awhile (just that stomach bug which was way way worse than morning sickness times infinity).

I’ve begun wearing maternity clothes, which seems to be totally normal for a second pregnancy and where last time I was kind of annoyed with the belly band look, this time I ran clammoring for it – give me that big cushy band of comfort – please. I have been buying a couple of t-shirts and tank tops on clearance, planning ahead for this summer when I’m huge and all the clothes I’ve bought have been PRETTY – last time I did a lot of ugly t-shirts that I hated. If I’m going to wear huge tents this time, they’d better be pretty tents. And since most of my tops hang pretty low, you can’t see the belly band that is a godsend anyway. During the day at home, I’m still mostly just wearing sweats and t-shirts, but when I go out, I put on my nice maternity clothes with pride – this pregnancy gets to be a celebration – proper party clothes required, right? Good thing I’m a bargain shopper and that I don’t go out very much at all.

I guess that’s really all for Week 12 – I’m surprised I had this much to write seeing as I’ve been passed out for most of it. I’ll see you all again at Week Thirteen, hopefully feeling fabulous and not at all stomach buggy.

@ Melissa : haha yeah I think I’m mostly wearing the shirts for their length – plus they are so pretty! And still having some baby fat from the last pregnancy, they are somewhat flattering actually. 🙂 Congrats on your second pregnancy! So exciting!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I am also in my 12th week (baby number two). I whipped out the maternity clothes back during week 9 (mostly pants). I haven’t gotten into the maternity shirts yet but I think I have too soon since I got called out on it in a meeting (I bent over & proudly showed my beautiful blue band on my jeans). I was actually excited to get back into maternity clothes (i love me some elastic waistbands)!

So does this mean we have to call Baby Blueberry.. I mean Baby Kumquat by their new name which is Baby Lime?

I’m not allowed to bring my husband over your house anymore. He’s beginning to day dream about Michael’s cuteness (especially now with Keenan around showing the boy love) and keeps giving me those looks. Thank goodness for birth control.

So sorry about the stomach bug–our whole house had it this week. How much more miserable can the stomach flu and morning sickness be?

Glad you are doing better, sweetie. And yay–we are almost in the 2nd trimester already!! 🙂

I love that cartoon! Too funny…and true!

Glad to hear your first trimester is moving along smoothly. The 2nd trimester was always my fav. In between feeling like crap because of the morning sickness and then feeling like crap in the 3rd trimester because I was big as a house and uncomfortable as anything!

BTW, I know I’m late, but HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope it’s a great one for you!

By the time you get to week 40 this kid’s nickname will be 40 words long! 🙂 I’m guessing next week “she’ll” be BB lime orange.
