Aloha Friday: Getting Active

It’s time for another Aloha Friday, the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend, in Hawaii and blog land anyway. As you should know by now, over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting and ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life’s blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Little Baby Blueberry is ten days old today – which means I still have about 4 and a half weeks of recovery ahead of me. I feel leaps and bounds better than a week ago, for sure, but I can still tell it’s going to be a long road. Pain killers are still very much a necessity and it doesn’t take much more than a flight of stairs or a good nursing session to wipe me out. Still, I’m looking forward to getting back into an exercise routine as soon as the good doctor gives me the go ahead. I have already lost at least ten pounds and my husband and grandma tell me that I look really great, which is awesome, but you know I’m just getting started. I’m planning to start simply with walking but if we get a Y membership I might take some classes and of course there is the Wii and workout videos. I know Dan would love it if I’d try running, too. As of this moment the only thing I’ve ever run for is the ice cream truck, but we’ll see…

BB is so lucky – the only exercise she needs to worry about right now is tummy time!

If I could be as skinny as her and only have to do that as an “exercise” – man I’d be one happy woman! Anyway, my Aloha Friday questions for this week are…

  • What is your favorite way to exercise?
  • If your a mother, how long after the birth of your little ones did it take for you to get active again?
  • How long did it take you to “lose the pregnancy weight”? (I’m still losing the pregnancy weight from my first child!)
  • Any recommendations for a good work out class I can take or a DVD to rent?

hey, I’m really behind on blogging since vacation!

I hope you’re not still getting wiped out from nursing sessions. 😦 That’s tough.

    Hope all is well! 🙂

I work out at the gym regularly. After giving birth I waited way too long to get active again.

Hey hon! Glad to hear you are going SO WELL! You look amazing and I can’t wait to see you and BB when you come home for a visit. Anyway.. how long did it take me to lose my baby weight? Well.. I only gained 20-25 with Jacob and was 130 or so before pregnancy. By the time he was 3 months I was down to 135 and there I stayed…no matter what I did…and finally…now that he’ll be 14 months on Monday I am down to about 128 lbs…I’ve lost the rest since about May and I am relieved. I don’t know what I’ve done outside of walking a bit, portion control and mindfull snacking, but I haven’t weighed under 130 in 8 years! So yay for me. lol

And how long did it take me to get active again? As you know I didn’t have a c-section…but I did have a wonderful 4 hour pushing session ending in a wonderful episiotomy that made me sore for a good 2 weeks. When we got home I did attempt walking but it just wasn’t a possibility until after about 2-3 weeks….too much sitting made me sore, too much standing/walking made me sore…but other than that and being uber exhausted I felt pretty good.

For me my favorite exercise is lifting Jacob on my legs while flat on my back and then flipping him onto my chest. He loves it, it works me out a bit…and we get some playtime in.

This is hard because while i exercise every day…I hate it. But I do really enjoy the step class at my gym. I work my butt off in it though! I would recommend you try it out if you haven’t done it before.

I’m not really into exercising so it’s a good thing I have my mom’s genes. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight in about 3 months.

I have promptly forgotten all of your questions as I gaze on her baby cuteness.

    I’m coming over to babysit.

Whether you like it or not.

I’m still working on the weight from child #1 let alone child #2! lol, but I am working on it! Um, I’m w/ you on running after the ice cream truck. I used to be a long distance swimmer in hs though. Gazillions of years ago.

Let’s see. For Nik, I had to be active after a week. He was airlifted to another hospital & we had to climb 3 flights to the floor he was on. It was only after he’d been there & was almost ready to be sent back to the military hospital that we found the elevator. Good times….

W/ Hanae I was able to take more time & I think I wasn’t running around tons until about 3 wks later. Both were c-sections.

The three best ways to lose the weight are walking, swimming, and dancing. If you can do one or all of them you are ahead of the game and will lose it fast.

I’m like you, I’ll only run if there’s a zombie invasion.
I think your going to do fantastic once you get fully active again.
I’ve heard a lot of Bloggers doing the 30 Day Shred. I’m really curious about it myself, and would love to hear your review on it.

Jen, I would definitely recommend walking. I was so slim after having the girls because I used to push them for miles in the pram to get them to sleep. Now that I am losing weight again, I walk the kids to school and back and then use my exercise bike in front of the telly when the kids go to bed.

I am a fitness walker and I love it. It helped me to lose 40 pounds 5 years ago and it keeps the weight that I lost from coming back.

My favorite workout class is Zumba. It is a class of Latin Dancing and it is so much fun! I just ordered Zumba Fitness so I can do it at home too.
